RE: tells me ep
Portable or hooked up to TV?
I'm not sure about how many portable ones would handle 1080p. Mostly pointless anyway because there's no 1080p portable screen (unless it's a laptop). 720p has a lot more choice, but you'll probably hit a level/profile restriction, so whether the downloaded anime will work directly will somewhat depend.
For hooked up to TV, WDTV, ASUS O-Play and co should do the job.
Note that donkey (standard subtitle format used by fansubs) generally aren't supported well anywhere except the PC.

RE: tells me ep
Netbook's with the GMA 500 chipset can handle 1080p
Hell almost everything can handle 1080p.
I would suggest a zion nettop with an ION2 graphics; last time i checked, they were 200$ (canadian)
Spoon, just read pmp because I roll like that when reading something...
Well a netbook is always ok, i think most netbooks of today can handle 1080p if they support hardware acceleration.

RE: tells me ep
If you don't mind re-encoding, you would have the most options available.
If this is accurate, then some high end phones can probably do 1080p: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre...?t=1077155
but only support up to High@L3.1
I don't see many anime encoded at L3.1 - most I've seen are usually around L4.0-L5.1, but your usage may vary.

I thought you needed GMA HD~3000 or above for accelerated playback (assuming the anime is encoded at L4.1).
A tablet may be a compromise though.

The GMA can handle it IF you use the cyber link power dvd program, but the problem is, it lacks subtitles support.
but with media player home cinema it can only go up to 720p using DXVA, unfortunately, I do not understand how the cyberlink program accomplishes the feat; I can only say that it is there.
It's pretty stupid though because the GMA500 can't even output a screen res of =>1920x1080
I'm just making a point that many computers and netbooks on the market now can handle 1080p in one way or another.

RE: tells me ep
It's its own H.264 decoder. I've heard of the Cyberlink decoder for getting DXVA to work on some older GPUs, but didn't know about the GMA500. Thanks for pointing that out :)

Implying that the iPad is portable?
If you re-encode to a format that's more native to the iPad, it should play back fine.
