Software Studio minori, Fan Translation Group in Talks
[Image: ef-the-first-tale-1.jpg]
Quote:The software studio minori posted  a July 12 cease-and-desist letter that it sent to No Name Losers (NNL), a fan group that worked on an unauthorized translation of minori's ef adult interactive novel software. However, minori  added a postscript to the letter to express its willingness to discuss with NNL an official license for the English-speaking market.

The software studio then posted an announcement that it started "preliminary discussions" with NNL on July 14. While minori acknowledged that it does not know what will result from the discussions, it anticipates that it can report on the results soon. About that same time, NNL replaced its website with a notice that it has "begun preliminary discussions with the CEO of minori, nbkz Sakai."

The software studio has since announced that it sent its proposal to NNL on Saturday, July 17. The proposal set a July 21 deadline (Japan Time) for NNL's first response to the proposal, but minori reports that NNL has already sent its first response ahead of the deadline.

The ef software inspired the ef - a tale of memories television anime series (pictured above) and its sequel ef - a tale of melodies. The studio's other software have also inspired the Haru no Ashioto The Movie: Ourin Dakkan video anime project and the Wind: A Breath of Heart anime franchise.

Very interesting to see a kind of openness from the developers. Would be nice to see an official release for this.

The anime aught to be licensed too though.. it's great.

Do you ignore every single other bit of news about Minori blocking foreign access, Minori deleting wiki entries, Minori C&Ding stuff, Minori blah blah, and only read the one single good one?

Seriously, VN developers are as far from what you described as you can get >.>.

Lol, it's probably because NNL is a bunch of trolls and pretty much said "fuck you" too all their previous C&D requests, so they're getting desperate.

I said that because of the attitude you just described. I didn't know they are as "bad" as you've pointed out (thanks for the sources) but this is the first actual VN news regarding this title I've noticed.

ANN probably only reported it because it is "positive" and like I said before, VNs are hardly my speciality or something I particularly keep track of - I just found it interesting, it is what one of my favourite anime titles adapted from, after all (-_^`)

Crunchy Roll or Funimation C&Ding stuff actually makes sense, since fansubbing is directly hurting their profits.

VN companies C&Ding fan translations makes very little sense.  Absolutely noone (who needs a translation) is going to buy anything from them anyway, without a translation.  In that respect, fan translations will probably actually increase their sales rather than decrease.

i guess minori got some flames with fan sub groups and don't want their softwares go overseas

i hope sekai project finished subbing the school days game, I've already finished episode 1 waiting for episode 2, and its good school days was not created by Minori, lol

Already watched the School Days anime, wasn't all that good.  Don't particularly feel like paying the VN all that much.

I want Subarashiki Hibi and Sumaga.  And Seinarukana, since I already played EnA1.

From NNLs responses in the articles you've mentioned they seem like a reasonable bunch. Hopefully wee will see something come out of this. (Unlike that recent New Voice Productions poo poo that failed horribly)
