Actually I'm not.  Weird maybe, but I'm rarely around computer folk.

I still recall splitting and spanning a 30MB file across a number of floppies...

Well, I am constantly around people who are either a) computer-savvy, or b) trend followers (i.e, teens to late twenties). From my personal experience, I don't actually interact all that much with people over the age of 30 (for the most part), and I'd suspect that a huge number of floppy users these days are most likely in that age bracket...

I'd wonder about possible polls to get a better idea, but those who use floppies at home probably aren't the type to come across such a poll, let alone participate. I also wonder if it is used for menial tasks at businesses, such as to keep up with weekly costs, or something else that wouldn't warrant a 1gb thumbdrive. Or for that matter, they might file them away. Who knows?

RE: Sony Stops Producing Floppies
Windows XP can only load storage drivers from floppies (assuming you want to install on something which requires the storage driver).
That's probably the only main thing I can think of, for a more technical person.

But floppies are slow and unreliable.  I found many of my floppies would stop reading and stuff.  Pretty much all PCs past 1998-9 had a USB port.

If that is true, I'm sure it contributes to some of the sells, considering how many businesses I see still on XP (including every computer at my university). Point is, wee really don't know what is happening everywhere.

I used to use floppy dicks back in elementary school.  I didn't think they even still made floppy disks in this day and age...
