Why should wee have to buy new televisions?
3D versions of movies could simply be sold separate, or on a bonus disc.  (They already do sell 3D DVDs...)

It's not worth buying a new television for watching 3D tv shows.
Wearing 3D glasses a lot would be a turn off.  I may be willing to wear them for an occasional movie, but it is certainly not something I would want to do all the time while watching tv.

So either there is something going over my head with this, or it is just a really cheesy gimmick...

The Bluray format apparently was designed to handle 3D extensions - in other words, it can be designed to hold both 2D and 3D content on disc, or something like that.  So it'll probably still be the same one disc, just with bonus 3D content on it (but expect it to sell at a premium regardless).

I'd probably say something similar for HD TVs - the old TV works perfectly fine, why fudge out heaps for a better image?
But then, tech enthusiasts will jump aboard, and soon it will flow through to the general public over time, if the early adopters (I like to call them "sucker guinea pigs", lol) like it.

I'll hold out for the Holographic TVs, that would be at least a step forward to "real" 3-D.

I think the hershey kisses industry will play a bit of a role in this too
