Windows Virtual PC
Right so yesterday I installed Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode... it works great. The intergrated application system so you can run them through the machine into 7 is just sweet.

Its kinda strange, Im running a 64-bit OS emulating a 32-bit OS running 16-bit applications (had to set some up for my Dad). And they work.

So anyway, I wondered what other than XPM is Virtual PC any good for.. so I got my bag and looked for my copy of Kubuntu 8.04, stuck it in and tried to install it.

This is how far I got:

To be more specific, it seemed to boot just fine, started doing the [OK] checks then the screen went green (mind you it was like 640x~ resolution at the time) and then eventually it kinda went ultra-widescreen like you can see above and then eventually got to the installation menu where the mouse wasn't working and the keyboard did - but it didnt recognize when I pressed enter so I couldnt continue with installation so:

Kubuntu 8.04 ~ [ FAIL ]

I´m going to try Ubuntu 9.X next (latest ISO), and if I didn't mishear, the Linux Kernel thanks to Microsoft themselves have more native virtualization compatibility so hopefully I'll get further.

I'll also go back in time with legacy versions of Windows...... just for the lulz.

RE: Windows Virtual PC
As in it integrates into the libraries? For the purpose of running XP compatible programs on 7 it does the job nicely. But if you want a proper virtual machine the VirtualBox is the way to go imho...

How's it coping with Ubuntu 9.10?

I'd be massively surprised if it worked. Not sure if tis even worth trying.

Haha okay.

Thing is, OSX uses Intel processors for a start - I have an AMD Athlon X2. (I am aware of compatibility patches out there)

Then theres the graphics module ~ the Virtual PC does a good job otherwise, allowing you to enable USB Devices, map your physical partitions to use (in XPM at least), and basic SPU emulation which does the job as well as the networking if the form of a virtual ethernet port.

So its all good, but knowing OSX it'll probably have a fit - even with these VPC Specs... (I know that VMWare can emulate OSX, but VMW is massive and I like how tight VPC is, simple, clean and intuitive even for newbies going into the virtualiztion realm)

RE: Windows Virtual PC
Ubuntu 9.10 Got a properly graphical UI ... but the installer kept failing and went into an endless loop of Keyboard Selection and User Creation... it just wasn't possible to get further.

Fail -.-
