[Anime Note - Preface] Motion Emotion
[I'm hoping to write a full article for Animeted on this, but I just wanted to jot down primary thoughts to see what you guys have to say too]

Having just received the Elfen Lied DVD Boxset, not only was memory coming back to me of the story, and characters... but the animation as well.

I don't recall seeing any other Anime by the studio that did Elfen Lied, but I think it's somewhat irrelevent.

From then till now, Animation seems to have improved.

Frames between movements have been more fluid - i.e. animated rather than skipped over.

Sure it's a natural progression, but the unusual thing is how it alienates the older anime, not just Elfen Lieds time, but before hand as well.

As new Anime fans come, they will be getting used to more sophisticated, nicer Animation methods.

Perhaps I just made the cut, but it wouldn't be too farfetched to assume the next generation of Anime Fans will expect a level of quality around what wee're seeing in Animes wee watch now.

On the other hand.. is it the coming of new studios or new studio methods? Because they have certainly come... and it's studios like SHAFT and Kyoto (compared to Toei) who are expected to hit a level, a level they've made.

RE: [Anime Note - Preface] Motion Emotion
its been a long time since anime was cell frame animation
its all 3d now,

nothing is done by cell anymore,
its much easier to render a 3d model and flatten it back out to a 2d render on the animation
:/

all though in alot of things it seems to clean and smooth

but detailed animation in the charecters makes up for those mistakes well
take into example ghost in a shell,
And for those who have seen it
Ergo proxy

Ps anime looks extremely proffesional on dvd/bluray then it is tv release
its like its been completely re animated
in most cases it probley is,
iv seen that with that with code geass
the charecters where completely remodeled in the face

Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha is like that, they completely redo the animation - makes the TV versions look cheap.

Or were the TV versions transmitted badly?
I really don't think they go to the effort to make things look a bit more detailed.
I know some movie remastering (ie VHS » DVD) are just an upscale with filtering.

Well source wise.... Anime on TV is looking better than Elfen Lied, TV or DVD....

Nanoha is much more superior on DVD than TV.

But generally the quality of animation has certainly elevated compared to 3/4 years ago.

Of course the animation quality is better now compared to back then. That's perfectly logical.

Nah, nothing is remade. They just go back and touch up upon the bits that were not so good. Remaking the whole thing would be like refilming a movie - vastly expensive and time consuming, simply not worth the effort. They'd rather spend the time and money making new shows.

As for the TV broadcasts being shitty, It could be done on purpose in some cases >.>, especially for stuff like ef, where the TV broadcast is just BAD. If they broadcast in BD quality, then there would be less incentive for people to buy the BDs.

Ok Sensei. Go back, and re-read what I wrote. Then re-read it again.

Wee're talking about TV series and their DVD/BD releases. Wtf does the Nanoha movie have to do with it?
