So lately i have been in confusion of what portable device i should get for myself (returned 5 different items, it is my money; so i don't want a penny to be wasted)so i finally got myself an ipod touch, but i haven't been satisfied totally by it due to its "restrictive" software (failure of a web browser for one)

so i started looking at the archos 5, yeah that gigantic hard drive internet tablet

now why i would i be looking at an archos 5? because i barely do anything physically extensive and listen to my mp3 at the same time (most of the time i walk and listen to some tunes). Also i want a bigger screen and more hard drive space; and that's when the archos 5 caught my eye

now im going to list the cons and pro's of both devices; and maybe I'll buy the archos, try it out and then return it

Archos 5

Pros:
-One big donkey screen, at 5" an 800x480 (damn..)
-Hard drive based (more space)
-Web browser is said to be better (you can download stuff, AND watch flash based stuff)
-So far it doesn't look like its software is so restricted by spoon like apple
-can probably be used as a removable storage

Cons:
-Hard drive based (not shock proof)
-Expensive
-Lacks appstore (and jailbreak apps; do people even code custom apps for this thing??)
-Quality of OS might not be as advanced as the touch
-heavy?

Ipod touch

Pros:
-Pretty moderate screen
-software is advanced and slick
-great music player
-pretty light

Cons:
-restrictive and clunky software too (pictures don't save properly, MUST use itunes, browser sucks donkey, etc etc apple bullchocolate)
-storage is an ample amount
-did i say apple bullchocolate?

Now i am pretty confused because i have seen the ipod touch getting hacked and such but is this a solution to its chocolatety locked out software? i have a 2nd gen touch so currently i haven't found anything interesting in the app store (some stuff here and there...)

is jailbreaking and hacking good enough to make the ipod touch better? theres so many problems im having with it right now that im just considering on getting the less restriced + bigger and better archos but at a higher price

what i expect out of the ipod touch is mostly (though its not intended to) is to browse the internet wherever i am and an easy way to type and read important school notes on the bus. But with all this spoon and the in-ability to save text files and such coupled with the fact that apple refuses to improve this product im almost sold to the archos 5

note i got an 8GB ipod touch for 230$$ but the archos 5 60GB retails at 380$$; is it really worth it to go and spend 150$$ more for such a simple task i expect out of a portable device? (but the bigger screen and space + better internet browser is very appealing also)
