New Hard Drive Performance
So I got my new HDD installed in my laptop, and I got to say, it's great. Aside from the more than 100GB of extra space, it's a lot faster than the stock Toshiba drive. I didn't do any benchmark tests or whatever, but my boot time (power off to password screen) has gone from about a minute and a half to about 35 seconds. And this is on a drive with the same RPM. I think it might be a combination of a higher quality drive, plus a reinstall of OS X getting rid of any junk.
The only complaint I have about this drive is that very occasionally, it makes this weird clicking noise. That's the only negative thing I can say about it, really.
So if you're in the market for a new 2.5" SATA hard drive, whether it's for your laptop or PS3 or something, I definitely recommend the Samsung HM320JI Media. It's a great price for the quality

RE: New Hard Drive Performance
click click click usually is a sign that a drive will be dying soon :(
Samsung makes good tvs, and appliances...but i wouldnt say that about harddrives :(

Oh. F uck. Well, I've read reviews for this HDD of people that have used it for a really long time, and they said it's just the head mechanism or something, so I'm not too worried. And it's not a click click click, it's just an occasional click. It's really infrequent. But thanks for the tip. I did get it discounted, after all.

RE: New Hard Drive Performance
I dunno, ive had a samsung HDD for the last 18 months or so, and so far its fast, efficient, reliable...everything a hard drive should be...although it was a risk not to go with a major brand, it was certainly worth it
Only complaint for me was that it was too quiet . Im opne of those people who likes to hear their PC running (my graphics card has since made up for that though :D)

RE: New Hard Drive Performance
Okay, I researched it, and it's not the "uh-oh" kind of clicking. It's a kind of alert to let you know it's getting hot. It actually makes sense, as I only heard it when I was doing a lot of stuff at once or doing something computer-intensive like playing TF2.

RE: New Hard Drive Performance
I'm actually planning to get a Samsung HDD - the main thing that worries me is that it's a lot cheaper than the HDDs from other companies (over here, a Samsung 750GB is around AU$100, whilst for the other companies, it's around $140-$170)...
Oh well.
