Gamers Vs Game Quality
Right, this is a question i feel inclined to bring up, since it seems to be hitting harder recently than ever.

Recently, ive been finding game releases are getting worse and worse. I always anticipate the newest release, as i always have done beforehand, thinking 'This is something that will keep me occupied. I love the wait as i install a game, because it always reminds me that in just a few minutes, my money will be rewarding me with a good solid 10 hours of enjoyment.

And then, i load it up. Im 20 minutes into a game, and thinking 'hmm, what have i bought. Im bored. Already'. Attention span is at an all time low (or so i think at this point). Im no longer a gamer, i can't sit through these games. I find the quality of even most better releases is just lacklustre. Sure, there are a few games that catch my eye. Battle For Middle Earth is still widely played (occasionally, i admit, with a trainer because sometimes you need a fudge off huge army). Audiosurf is still a stroke of genius. Portal is still retaining it humor (if slowly being drained my subsequent replays) and still retaining its enjoyment factor (far from defunkt). Team Fortress 2 is an occasional treat when i have access to it, a computer with the internet, and a GPU from before the middle ages.

And yet, so many games fall far short of my boundaries. I don't believe them to be high, and so once again, i arrive at the conclusion that i am to blame; that games are fine, and i am wrong

Then, i load up Dungeon Keeper. 6 hours later, and 3/4 of the campaign complete, i realised how long id been playing. An example of a game which meets my apparently extremely high standards, despite being only average good according to a general concensus. But if i load up my newer games, once again im bored. My PSP currently has on Grandia, MGS, FFIX, FFVII,FFVIII, Abes Oddessy and Kula World. and i love them.

tl;dr. Are games the issue, or are Gamers. Do you think that the quality standard for games has fallen as the desire for graphics has grown, or am i just past my gaming.

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
Welcome to my view of reality...
I have been doing this for 15 years and it's boring already. Same thing everyday get up (get on) play for while (playing the game) and then go to bed (get off). So boring.

I think it is myself becoming bored with reality. Plenty of people seem to enjoy their lives and doing the same thing over and over, but I am bored of it already. So I imagine the problem is me and in this case you.

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
Games are no longer a labor of love and creativity, they're a business machine. Sure, there are still quality games, like Call of Duty 4, GTA4, MGS4, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, etc. But for every Grand Theft Auto, there are 5 Maddens, Guitar Hero: Aerosmiths, licensed movie games, and the like. It really takes a keen eye and some skepticism to tell the good games from the boring ones.

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
Im not talking about reality.

The "quality" of reality can't degrade, only your perception of it

This thread isn't here for depressing sPa/\/\

so its not just me then. Its just so many reviewers rave over these games, but even the more popular ones (Im looking at you Crysis) turn out ot be just another nail in the same old toolbox

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
If you're bored with reality, then do something different. Become ambidextryous. (Use both hands well)
I think it might be a bit of both, cause recently, I have found myself playing AOE2 more than AOE3, which was released much later. Might even play AOM. :P
It seems nowadays, because of graphics, companies try spending more time on that then the actually gameplay because they think the good graphics lure you in. Before, if you didn't have good gameplay, you had nothihng!

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
I'm saying no matter what every game I play has been done. It might have a new twist that will keep me entertained for a few more seconds but it's the same damn thing. I want something new that's never been done and because of that it is probably me who has lost interest.

besides why did you post this is you had the answer to your own question?

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
...you can give any game to someone who has never played one and they will be amazed regardless... (for something is better than nothing)
It is your expectations that have grown to high because you are always buying the best games and keep expecting more.

What happens when you reach the top and there is nothing left to expand into?

But am i expecting to much, or are others expecting to little.

The masses, as you point out, will be impressed by just about anything. As a result, are wee (the gamers) therefore being short changed, or picky

RE: Gamers Vs Game Quality
the answer to that would require a collective of a gamers to answer. Even then there would be no unanimous decision. Wee would reach a stalemate and quit or begin again. Wee could continue that but a black and white answer would ever be reached.
