18x DVD burns...
I have one of these burners that can "overburn" 16x DVD media at 18x.  I typically burn at 12x (read that it's apparently better - dunno though), but I just decided to try this 18x setting once.

Well, after starting the burn, the DVD burner started spinning really loud.

...and it did so for the next ~35 minutes...

Well, that's 18x for ya.  12x usually takes ~9min to burn a whole DVD, so 18x only takes around 4 times longer.

Yeah, probably some random defect, meh.  Anyone else burned at 18x before?

No.  I usually burn slow.

8x for movies usually.  (for Ps2 games 4x)

RE: 18x DVD burns...
If you try to burn something at a speed faster than your burner can go, it just burns at the slowest speed, or something like that.

By burner can only burn 8x at max. And if I try make it burn at 16x, it ends up burning at some stupidly slow speed. Equivalent of like 1 or 2x.

RE: 18x DVD burns...
lol I think they should integrate all these shady programs into windows. The people who need them will and the people who are too stupid won't even know they are there.

IT'S MY DVD BURNER DAMN IT, AND IF I WANT 20x WRITE SPEED I'M GONNA GET IT!!!

I guess google says that only certain burners support it, and even then you need modified drivers

some guy said this program can test it but I'm not responsible if that's a virus. You can never tell where the shady side of the internet is now a days

Most humans can never hear the difference between quickly or slowly written audio compact disks, but I don't know how movie compact disks turn out.

Probably - never checked, and never really bothered.  The option appeared in Nero, so...
(but then, why the drive went super loud, IDK)
