Help Setting up a network
So I'm in the hotel and I payed for the online access since i wanted to use my new laptop...
happens that wee were told that the online access was usable by more than one computer (my sisters also have laptops, so wee didnt had to share computers)

but when wee bought the service, wee discovered that its only usable on one PC... so I'm kinda setting up a network, but im stuck

Here's what i have on Hand:

My laptop with Vista64
My sisters Laptop with XP32
wireless router
2/10 feet ethernet cables
2 feet ethernet cable

help me out please >.<

RE: Help Setting up a network
youd have to connect to the internet with say your laptop, then connect you laptop via ethernet to the wireless router, and then set up the router to broadcast the connection from your laptop so your sisters can connect up to your new network.
which router have you got?

RE: Help Setting up a network
all you really need to do is connect your laptop with the ethernet cable, then you can just pair up the two laptops through wifi.

i forgot to tell that i can only access the internet wirelessly... with my laptop... apparently the hotel's ISP has a MAC white list for the ppl who pay... which gives me an idea...
* Kaiser googles about MAC spoofing...

RE: Help Setting up a network
You could try hooking your sisters laptop to yours and then under connection properties (on your computer) check the box that says allow other computers to connect through this connection (something like that). It might be renamed or different in vista. You could look into ICS (internet connection sharing.) You could also try to create an ad-hoc network(if they both have wireless) to do the same thing using your comp as a router.

You probably won't need the router (double you tee eff! who brings a router to a hotel room).

I don't even thing a router can receive a wireless signal just wired from the modem. What type of con does the hotel have (wired or wireless)?
For more information on any of the following please pick on of the options I gave you and I will give further explaination if necessary.

Also what hotel and where are you staying? It be funny if wee were in the same hotel.

I'll try that, but the problem is that for some reason it won't let me connect to both the Ad-hoc network and the room's wireless connection...

Happens that my house is actually like ~30 minutes from the hotel (in puerto rico you can go everywhere in less than 2 hours)
so i just went and took everything that i *may* need...

the Hotel has wireless ONLY...
i was planning on sending from my laptop's ethernet to the router's WAN port...somehow... <_<

RE: Help Setting up a network
Yes I did overlook the fact that if the wireless card is in ad-hoc mode it can't accept infrastructure connections...can you do it with an Ethernet cable from your computer to your sisters?

also I guess you could try using your computer as a modem and then the router for your sister to connect to.

and why can't you just buy it for you and your sister?
