PMPlayer Advance build 20080512
Quote:If you want to save your Sony PlayStation Portable battery while watching lots of videos, then the PMP video file format is for you. It runs at a meager speed of 66 mHz thereby conserving your PSP battery life. How to play PMP files on your PSP?

Turn to the work of developer Cooleyes on the homebrew app PMPlayer Advanced which is now upgraded to build 20080512.

What is new for this build? Besides the PMP format, you can now also play MP4 files. Here are the complete changes for PMPlayer Advanced Build 20080512:

    * Added support playback of video in MP4 format AVC at a maximum resolution of 480x272
    * Added two new parameters (asc_scale, multcode_scale) to set the font headlines in config.xml
    * Improved snapshot features (in the press about stopped playing and saved the screenshot in PNG to the directory ms0: / PICTURE / PPA /
    * Added the possibility to delete the file after pressing SELECT

You can download two versions of PMPlayer Advanced Build 20080512 depending on what custom firmware your Sony PSP is supporting. Choose between 3.xx CFW or the 1.5 kernel CFW.

The download has no attached readme so make sure you know what you're doing when installing PMPlayer Advanced Build 20080512. Feel free to ask for help at the QJ.NET Forums.

I have the sample of the MP4 player that this version uses, I must say that it's very impressive to get Mp4 playback in homebrew. This could be very cool in homebrew games. Very simple cut scenes :)

MP4 playback is pretty cool.  Probably doesn't require ghey ATOM changing or anything...

I'd love to see Vorbis support though.  Would require more CPU, but it would still be a nice addition.

RE: PMPlayer Advance build 20080512
Does this mean that the MP4's are playing at the lower clock speed usually used by PMPlayer?

Or does it jsut play them at default XMB speed, and im reading this wrong? Either way, impressive to see mp4 in a homebrew app indeed

^ Files in the PMP container play back at 66MHz (default XMB clock is 222MHz).  Haven't tried MP4s, but I'd expect that they'd probably play back at a similar speed.

RE: PMPlayer Advance build 20080512
Well, last night I took the AVC and MP3 streams I usually mux into the PMP container, and instead, sent them through Mp4box.  Turns out that PPA didn't play them though (when you select the file, there's a black screen for one second, then it returns to the menu) Erk  I guess you need to do something else to the MP4s before they're playable.

Just make the MP4 files like you would for playback in the XMB, with a max size of 480x272. (XVID4PSP, or your normal method)

I guess it just basically uses the same routine as the XMB uses.  Ah well, I'll probably stick to PMPs (easier to multiplex).
Thanks for the information though :P (By the way, what CPU clock does it run at?)
