^^ yes all are. well some i used virtual dub to cut out but that doesn't count because it doesn't compress it.. though you end up with a 10gig uncompressed file sometimes lol....
i could make them better (smaller in size @ same quality) now that ive learned more about the program but i most likely won't go out of my way to redo old ones hehe.. ill do some more soon

Thought so.

I recognize some... special characteristics of stuff that is encoded by Xvid4PSP.

I don't personally use Xvid4PSP, but I've had a look at it before, seems pretty solid.

U can use VirtualDub to encode it if u want, although if you want your videos in H264, VirtualDub can't do that, can do Xvid though.

So what settings do u use?

RE: EP Anime OPs & EDs [O&K/D/DL]
i like xvid4psp... it works really well and can convert almost any format to any other format.. i know virtualdub also encodes but as you said they havent made a h or x264 build of it yet so.... i don't use xvid anymore
with the videos on this page i used x264 constant quantizer @ 22, ehaustive (that's mostly for high motion stuff but i always do it anyway).. they come out pretty well...  you could set the quatizer a little lower if you want better quality if you like really high quality video but 21 -27 is usually best for most stuff... well that's my opinion and what i do anyway

yeah, I don't use Xvid anymore either. Even though i have good reasons to do so, that is, my DVD player can actually play XviD, so i can watch stuff on my TV and surround sound system rather than my computer monitor and stereo headphones of which the right ear is broken.... but... i like to encode my stuff dual audio and have softsubs, chapters and everything, so AVI container is a no-no for that... That reminds me, maybe i should go back to using OGM, with XviD and Vorbis... cause the TV actually somewhat supports OGM (although imperfectly). That way, i can have dual audio, and get it to work on TV. Too bad it doesn't support MKV at all Sadist.

Azumi Wrote:... h or x264 ...

Oh, by the way:

H.264 is the standard. Also known as MPEG-4 AVC
x264 is a software library for encoding H.264. (i.e. the encoder).

I generally use somewhere between Q18-24 (using Constant Quality, rather than Constant Quantizer) for anime (i tend to lean towards quality, rather than size), depending on the compressibility of the thing I'm trying to compress, with the more compressible stuff using a lower quantizer, and the unagreeable "I'm going to end up absolutely massive on low quantizer" stuff with a higher quantizer.

I don't generally use exhaustive search. Although it is the best search method, it takes AGES and the benefits over uneven multi-hex is minimal... so i generally use uneven multi-hex. I use exhaustive for small things (e.g. anime OPs and music videos)

And i like using crazy settings like 16 reference frames and 16 B-frames. Zinga thinks it's overkill, because the benefits of things like reference frames greatly diminishes after 5 or so, but i still do it anyways, since i don't think it doesn't screw up encoding speed that much... and some of the profiles given to u do it (The guy who made these profiles knows a way more than me. If he thinks it's alright, then it probably is).

Anyways, I'll stop blabbing on about stuff that noone cares about... Bye

Here's my test - Fruits Basket opening with both audio streams, and both subtitle streams in VobSub: http://zingaburga.com/upload/Fruits%20Ba...pening.mkv

8.42MB - took me an hour to upload >_>

As for what settings, i don't think he used Xvid4psp, so he won't be able to give u settings for that.

I'm taking a guess that he used x264 and all the programs programs directly. (So basically DGindex -» Avisynth + filters (deinterlace, maybe others) -» x264 for video, oggenc? for audio, vobsub for subtitles -» mkvmerge to mux it all together).

Taken from a thread he made about encoding some time ago, the settings he uses in that thread is...

Code:
x264 -q 20 -A all --me umh --subme 6 --ref 3 --mixed-refs --direct auto --b-pyramid --b-rdo --bime --sar 16:15 --thread-input --progress -o FB.mkv Video01.avs

besides for the quantizer, he probably wouldn't have changed it too much.

... ...

It seems that none of you guys bother cropping the videos... I'm kinda picky, and prefer to crop away the black boarders on the edges when encoding, to get clean edges (which the fansub encoders do also). But don't mind me, u do whatever u want to do.

^ I think I used --subme 7 instead - though hardly a difference.
You can actually see the QP of the video by enabling the OSD of ffdshow.

Audio streams are Vorbis @ q0.4.

But anyway, the main thing is that the Fruits Basket opening isn't exactly "exciting" - ie, it's fairly dull, so a quantizer encode will get it small.  Whereas, the Chobits opening is like ~20MB with the same settings.

Oh, By the way, are previews/trailers, which use the OP/ED song fine?

huh? mine are all cropped... most of them arent 4:3 ratio may be what you mean... all the ones i do are 16:9 so if you not using a widescreen moniter you will have black boarders.. sorry not much i can do about that.. i did notice one that had weird egdes on the side but ill fix it
