hmm  . . the only thing I could think of is reinstall. . .but maybe it could be a driver issue? (just making the wildest guess)

RE: CMD restarting my comp when i excute it
boot from your XP CD, goto the recovery menu (press R when it gives you the option), log in and then type sfc /scannow.

This will check your windows files for any errors, if it finds something wrong it will tell you and try to fix it with a version from the CD.

This will take some time to complete as it checks every single system file on your PC.

RE: CMD restarting my comp when i excute it
try booting into safe mode (keep pressing F8 as windows boots up to get to the menu), and see if you can open the command prompt in there, if you can run sfc /scannow.

If you can't format your computer and start again.

RE: CMD restarting my comp when i excute it
well its good that you found and used vmware, personally i would rather just use the actual cmd without any other softwre, try this, that command that uncertain wrote may be similar, but it seems kinda complicated,
go to my computer then right click on c drive
then go to the tools tab, then click on error checking
it'll say it can't do it right now
it'll do it at your next sytem reboot
so restart the computer and it will scan for issues, after the black xp loading screen
it'll take forever, but if somethings wrong it'll try to fix it
it might not, I've had a similar prob before and it didnt fix it, i had to reinstall the whore, srry i mean whole os again
