PCM? What? Sony would use PCM? I guess the encryption makes it not matter so much... ATRAC3 would probably achieve better compression than VAG, since the former is a lossy codec. Though they could've left it perfectly fine in RCOs... Fun thing about the VAGs is that you can have ~10 second bootsounds, if you change the right value in the anim resources...

I've tried both 96kbps ATRAC3plus on SonicStage, and 105kbps ATRAC on Microsoft Sound Recorder. Still get a silent boot. And, due to technical issues with my PC, I'm stuck with framework 1.1, and having to manually hex edit mine.
