Used to read a lot, now, almost never...
I blame the PSP.

Haven't read much horror/mystery - don't particularly find the genre (for books) interesting.  Last one I read was The Fog (I think it was called that) - was decent.

I used to feel the same way. But I am now so conversant in both Fantasy and Fiction that
I find the genres dull and predictable, even when they're unpredictable they're still predictable.
Mysteries (well written ones) keep you guessing and unsure of yourself until the very end, and
horror, when it is effective (very rarely) will enthrall and immerse you more deeply than any fiction.

Unfortunately good horror is hard to come by. The popular ones are really more thriller than horror
and the classical ones can be utterly boring. Very few novels have ever scared me. The only one
I can recall now is .... "The Boogie Man" by Stephen King, or maybe "Room 1408". I'm not sure if that's the title, but it
was the last book to scare me. And I was like 11. Still, I continue to search.

To me mystery and horror go hand in hand, but its far easier to find good mysteries than good horrors.

I read the novel by Dean Kootz suggested here, it was good, but more of a thriller than a horror
novel. I'll check out some of the other suggestions as well.

the abyss gazes also into you.

Actually, basically all the fantasies I've read, they pretty much tell you the ending right at the start.  So really, it's no the climax that's interesting, but the "journey".

Anyways, for mysteries, it's usually the thing you least suspect, so if you read enough, I guess they become predictable too...

I really, don't pick genres though.  One of the problems with fantasy is that they take a while to "start", as the author needs time to describe the world to the reader.  I couldn't read LOTR for that reason - it was way too slow for me...
