RE: [Anime Club] Sound! Euphonium
TERRIBLE NEWS OF THE DAY.
The show seems to have been confirmed as having 13 episodes. God. Damn. It.
This could easily have go another 13 - lets hope it's two cour and it's just having a break.
Seriously. :(

RE: Sound! Euphonium Episode 10
More drama~!
Wee finally know how Reina and Taki-sensei are connected now and it's no longer a secret. Taki came up with a reasonable plan to allay the students fears of bias although it does undermine is judgement somewhat.
A previous hint to Asuka having more to her than her spirited public-facing self is reaffirmed with her one-to-one with Kumiko where they speak honestly with each other. I wonder what her story is? It's interesting that Kumiko felt comfortable being upfront with her (usually indicated by a lower tone in her voice, haha) - she did, in turn, get an honest response.
Hazuki and Midori played very little part in this episode and the dynamic is a bit strange now as they aren't unaware of Kumiko getting closer to Reina - and the consensus that Asuka treats Kumiko differently is telling, too - where is her place in this social circle? Who does she really care about? I only ask because it doesn't feel like Kumiko has been that open and honest with Hazuki and Midori - she's keeping them as friends at arms length.
Shame there's only 3 episodes to go - they're going to have to wrap things up fast!

RE: Sound! Euphonium Episode 13 (End)
I think the show felt too quick for me. could be wrong, but at the rate it went at the start, it's just too quick. Yet KyoAni did their thing where they don't reveal the episode count until 3/4 of the way through the series. *sigh*
That aside, I loved it. Music and art was pretty much top notch, but then, it's KyoAni, so I'm sure they'd put an effort into making the series anyway. I need to check out the novel to see if there's a continuation or if it ends there...
All in all, I liked it.

RE: Sound! Euphonium Episode 11
The result was expected, but how wee got there wasn't as straightforward as anticipated!
Trust Taki-sensei to force Kaori to give up the solo - ever ready to make his students do the right thing.
Another electric scene between Kumiko and Reina - this time Kumiko arresting Reina with her words - what is it with these two? Who's responsible for this? xD
In the end Ribbon girl came across as having an unhealthy obsession. Mention of Kaori's obsession with Asuka was surprising because it isn't obvious she has one! Not to ignore the fact that Asuka is an interesting character though - there's definitely something more to her...

RE: Sound! Euphonium
I'll be elaborating on how this show ended but as I just finished it I wanted to leave a note at least.
What a wonderful, perfect ending to the show. Inspiring, delightful, great characters, great music, brilliant production... thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really, really am hoping for a second season - it would be such a shame to let it end now!
9/10.

The pace did vary quite a bit - at times it was plain weird - but that's the trouble working a fixed story into 13 episodes I guess. I don't feel disappointed by the decisions made - the fact it had me so desperately wanting the characters to succeed is testament to KyoAni figuring out what was best to develop the characters without making main events seem unimportant.
As SkyDX said to me - a whole year has past in Sound Euphonium since it started - and wee saw it in 13 x 23 minute episodes which is ridiculous - but it's inherant in the medium, so it's hard to feel disappointed about the pace.

RE: Sound! Euphonium
I felt that the series was quite dry in places, and delved too deeply into side character's backstories. This gave the show a hollow feeling as I didn't feel I actually knew the characters very well after what was as said a whole year of school. The production was incredible, Kyoto Animation deliver quality animation, backgrounds, art and scene setting in spades.
I'm looking forward to more; the main characters I feel need a lot more fleshing out in comparison to the side characters, and some of the girls in the OP and ED barely got any lines or development throughout the series whatsoever (Sapphire especially).
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I've not enjoyed this as much as any other Kyoto animation series I've seen. All in all it was good, which is what I rated it on MAL (7/10). But imo Plastic Memories managed to fit a lot in, be it sickly-sweet rom-drama or not, and didn't feel rushed in 13 episodes, this did however to me.
But like I said, I enjoyed it, just not nearly as much as I thought I would. I thought it would be more fun, and I think that's what has left me disappointed.
