Ye PC of Build 1 is dying
Original Build: http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthr...?tid=26796
alright. i wasn't expecting this one... at least not for another fewish years dealing how well my non-built computer lasted (rebuilt in PC build 3)
not only does the machine stop functioning at random but now it will turn itself off even when at low temps. last shutdown was at 27c after idling a bit and then choosing to load something.
i have been checking various things to make sure it wasn't one of the more common issues (like ram) that's been causing the freezing, although it kind of changed into the whole shutting itself off thing ( and I'm talking about a complete shut down, not a reboot). which is more annoying.
i am considering pieces from PC build 5 to replace the core and board (and graphics card, although PC build 5 didnt have a thread as it wasn't really a build i did, i just kind did it as a proxy build)
lemme know if i should waste my time with buying new parts or can this be fixed through other means.

RE: Ye PC of Build 1 is dying
the only spare PSU i have (that wouldnt be a annoyance to remove) is a dying one. that's the same with the mobo.
although if the one i had in that one was modular i would have been able to swap out the psu easily without issues but no. it wasn't until PC build 3 that i got a Modular supply.

Results from ℋiЬЬyℬot™ - "better than Google"If you think the PSU is the problem then you have 3 options to work out if this is really the issue.
1a, Take out the PSU and test on another system.
1b, Use a PSU from a problem free system to try on the suspect system.
2, Manually test suspect PSU using a multimeter.
3, Get a PSU tester ($10 - $40) and test the suspect PSU.

RE: Ye PC of Build 1 is dying
boogs if its an over heat issue, then why did i get a shutdown at 27c? (case is open, and i have temp probe in the heatsink)
like stated hibby it would be a pain to remove the PSU from this one as its not modular, but it could be done that way. although to state it was a complete power down instead of a reboot like the last PSU did. so I'm not sure if that's really what going on.
which brings me to the OS issue. when running mint (live session) i had a crash.
Quote:<SyfeKS> uh. if it will load into it
<SyfeKS> poo poo. somehow i froze mint
<SyfeKS> wheeeeeee
<SyfeKS> system errorness
* mobileAbigails has quit (Ping timeout: 181 seconds)
<SyfeKS> I'm thinking its the cpu core. 45-49c last try to load mint
i assume it has to do with hardware, question is what is causing it to crash like that? i ruled out that its not the graphics card as it turned into complete offs after updating the drivers for it and then i reverted the driver and it still happened

RE: Ye PC of Build 1 is dying
EDIT: What version of Mint are you running?
I ran Mint 13 (or something like that) and it would constantly lock up as well. It could actually be an OS/driver bug. Perhaps try a live CD of another distro to see if things work better.
Though it doesn't explain why everything was fine for you in the first year.

You mean the BIOS/POST?
I recommend disabling the full screen logo display in the BIOS setup, if that's enabled, as it's pretty much pointless.
Does your motherboard have any debug LEDs? Some may have beep tones to indicate certain failure codes - check the motherboard manual to see if it has that.
