Google to offer internet service in Kansas City and Kansas City
Google has revealed its plans for gigabit internet, as well as television. There are three plans:
Gigabit internet, obviously, provides up to a 1 gigabit download speed. A full list of available channels can be viewed at https://fiber.google.com/plans/residential/. Free internet provides a download speed of up to 5 Mb/s, and an upload speed of up to 1 Mb/s. However, there is a $300 installation fee associated with the free plan, which is waived for the others.
Google Fibre is currently available only in Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS. For more information, as well a list of FAQs, visit https://fiber.google.com/help/.

This^
I'm paying $85 a month for internet that's 10Mbps. But, if this ever comes to North Carolina, it probably won't be available, like other services in my area :/

Where does google stand on the anti piracy stance?
this is my first question... (basically, will the internet be censored?)

Well they want net neutrality but that's not to say they won't give in to government requests for more information like most other ISPs.

RE: Google to offer internet service in Kansas City and Kansas City
I have a feeling that there'll be some privacy related conditions attached?
I can't see why they'd give a connection away for "free" otherwise - surely they have some clause that you'll have to use their DNS servers, or get served their ads?
But anyway, unmetered 5/1Mbps is damn good for a "free" service - assuming you can amortise it over 2 years, it's like $13/mo with no setup fee.
Is gigabit 1000Mbps in both directions?
Also interesting is the TV package, but then IDK what cable is like in the US. $50/mo for TV would be quite expensive here. I'd imagine it'd be the most attractive to people who don't stream stuff, but then they wouldn't really use the gigabit connection?

If this takes off, I could see Google offering really good internet and TV packages across the world*.
