[SOLVED] System Restore Won't Work
The issue started yesterday. When I was turning off my computer, instead to show me the welcome screen, it showed me the classic one. Then I turned my laptop today and the classic menu showed again ~ I thought it was just a bug or something but it isn't. I want to change it back to the welcome one, so I went to User Accounts but it turns up enabled. Maybe it's because of CCleaner ~ cause I cleaned my registry the other day (before yesterday ~ when there's no bugs yet) . So I merged my backups to my registry. Then I restarted my laptop but it still keeps showing the classic menu. So I tried using System Restore Point, and it was back to normal. But when I checked my Drive D, it also reverted everything back. So I undid my last restore point ~ so now I'm back with the classic menu again, and I backed up my files in Drive D and went back again to the restore point. But this time, the restore point won't work. It keeps saying that no changes have been made and the system restore point failed. So I tried several times but it still keeps showing that. So, I turned off my computer and logged in back but still with the classic menu and the system restore points won't work. And I also noticed that my Avast is not working anymore so I can't scan my laptop or even enable it. My laptop's gone mad and I don't have any ideas how to revert it back to what I want it to be. Please help :'(

RE: [HELP] System Restore Won't Work
Results from ℋiЬЬyℬot™ - "better than Google"You could just manually edit the reg key yourself using regedit.
What OS is it? XP?

I know how to edit one, but I don't know what I should put.
I don't want to mess it around ~ I'm a noob at that but I know how to configure it.
Yes, it's XP with Service Pack 3. I don't know just why of a sudden, the system
restore point started malfunctioning. I just really want to get them back :(

RE: [HELP] System Restore Won't Work
Results from ℋiЬЬyℬot™ - "better than Google"Well I would suggest editing it and then making a new restore point after.
If you want the reg key details and the value to change it to I can provide that if needed.

Wait, what should I edit in there anyway?
Tell me Step 1, please? And it's useless to
create a restore point if I can't use SR with it? :(

RE: [HELP] System Restore Won't Work
Results from ℋiЬЬyℬot™ - "better than Google"I take it you know how to start regedit.
The reg key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
The value Name is: LogonType
Change the value to what you want: 0 = Classic Mode and 1 = Welcome Screen
Then exit registry and reboot.

I already tried that when I was googling it.
The value is already one when I took a look at it :(
Yeah, it seems like a bug. So, I'm installing other
anitvirus systems, so that I can check my system out.
What do you think the cause may be then? :'(

RE: [HELP] System Restore Won't Work
Results from ℋiЬЬyℬot™ - "better than Google"Change it to 0 exit reboot then change back to 1 then exit reboot again.
Also do you have any other apps like tweakui etc installed? If so it maybe making the changes.
-edit-
There are also some apps that mess up the restore process when installed, ZoneAlarm is one of them.
Also you could try running system restore in safe mode.

I have TweakUI but it's been there for ages and I don't think it's the one causing it.
I don't have ZoneAlarm though. Maybe I'll try it in safe mode. Press F9 while booting, right?
I tried it earlier but even if I press F9 (while I was restarting) it won't show the safe mode.
Am I doing it wrong?
