No, I dislike Skrillex because he makes shit music.

People like it, and it's popular, but that doesn't make it good music.

Loads of people like Katy Perry, but she makes shit music no matter how you look at it. Loads of people like mainstream rap (drums + dude talking over it), but it's still shit music.

It's repetitive and annoying. It's shit music whether you actually like it or not.

Pretty disappointed to hear that from you, bread.

I agree mainstream rap and Katy Perry is spoon, however... be it Skrillex, mainstream rap or Katy Perry, the fact that you don't like it doesn't automatically make it spoon music in every case. It's spoon music to you and you shouldn't be trying to state facts that are defined by personal taste.

It's like Metal, I can gladly say it's my favorite genre but I'm not going to dislike someone else for thinking its spoon. If that person tries to shove their opinion about Metal down my throat however, I'll take that for the worse - nobody is in the position to be like that.

You seemed to have completely missed my point. It's not shit music to me, it's shit music. It's an irrefutable fact. I don't like metal, but metal is not spoon music. It takes skill and effort to make. Mainstream pop and rap, and dubstep take neither skill nor effort to make, so therefore, they're spoon music. Mainstream pop is all the same fucking drum beat, some synths thrown in, and some stupid bitch singing over it. Where's the creativity or original in that? It's shit music. If you know anything about music, you cannot dispute that.

I'm gay.

I get where you're coming from but there's always going to be a point where you might think music is spoon based on those attributes, but others think its genuinely good music.

There can be beauty in technical minimalism too, does music that happened to use little effort to make yet achieve universal acclaim with you not liking it make it "spoon music"?

The songs are universally slandered are surely the ones to go by the banner "spoon music"... I can understand the bracket you've made for "spoon music" and I wholeheartedly agree, but it's not the same for everybody else, so there's no point in continually pushing our opinion if wee're not going to change their mind.

i don't think it's really the music's problem in most cases... i mean sure not everyone has the same taste but i think the major issue is that most bands and  "artists" these days will only last a year or two because people constantly move towards the next chart topper... it's more or less like music's become a fashion item which is sad in my opinion... i will be one to say that mainstream music is spoon not because of the music itself but because of an easily influenced audience and artists and record companies who exploit this fact without any concern for music at all....

RE: Dubstep
CAN I EXPLAIN SOMETHING PLEASE.

Wubstep is wubstep.

Dubstep originates from UK Garage, Dub and Drum & Bass. It's annoying when people say dubstep is spoon when the genre is broader than they think.

The stuff below is Dubstep.
Listen to this and then say the same thing as before.

One of my favourite songs of all time.

and Burial:

This was a post UK Garage to Grime scene, basically making future beats for grime mcs.

It is about the bass in most respects but originally it was a deep bass not a screamy one.

Like this is still quite calming.

Kind of dancy garage feel.

Then stuff like this came out, which made it more mainstream but still good and different:

Then the Americans came and wubbed the spoon out of it.
Not saying it was all Americans but they certainly contributed immensely to brostep.

Hipster.

I like maybe 2 dubstep tracks, and I hate 99% of them because they all sound the same. The more chill ones are OK.
But electronica and house for the win.
