Probably gonna piss someone off with this thread but why do so many assholes like this genre all of a sudden? Nobody listened to it years ago with bands like Joker and Gorillaz but ever since crap like Skrillex came out, every little dork loves it. It sounds like generic cat piss IMO. I never liked the genre to begin with but now everywhere I look, it's little punk ass kids going "lol dubstep is teh cooliest". Discuss.

Don't like the fanboyism surrounding it but I've liked genres like Drum'n'Bass, Breakbeat, etc. before "Dubstep" was popularized.. it's an offshoot of that kinda stuff and to think Dubstep is the best no questions asked proves how close-minded the listener is.

In the case of Skrillex - when I found out about him I got his Scary Monsters & Sprites EP and really liked it. Wears off after a while but I do like listening to it now and then. I find his non-Dubstep work rather boring though - he should stick to the dubstep.

I find a couple of DnB artists are going pretty mainstream for the worse though - such as Sub Focus and Nero. Their stuff before their radio-play heavy LPs is good stuff.

As far as DnB goes, I do favor "heavier"... Calyx, (&) Teebee, Maldini & Vegas, Spor, Noisia...

But as far as Dubstep goes... its personal taste. I also don't like people who rubbish Skrillex for the fanboyism it's attracted - not his fault.

Edit: Gorillaz did Dubstep? wat?

I don't listen to dubstep, but I have a friend who loves Skrillex. She tried to get me to listen to some of his songs, but I think I've only heard 2. Nonetheless... I didn't like it. It's just not my cup of tea.

I've heard one song with KoRn featuring Skrillex, and I thought it was "Okay", but I didn't care for it. Now I hear KoRn is making a dubstep album :/

People like dubstep because they love saying "dubstep", annoying spoon genre imo
