RE: PC or Console
bigger monitor, don't have to sit on a desk, no worries about frequent hardware updates,

also I'm a fighting gamer so pad > keyboard.

you can build a pc that's tailored for gaming ;)
and of course there are a number of gamepads, wheels and joysticks available for you to use with your pc Madwin
good point,. was thinking to buy a xbox360 controller,. ;p

Many PC games these days are essentially console ports anyway (sucks, but how markets work) so you possibly end up with better experiences with consoles.
But Starcraft II is PC only, so there.

good point 2,.. but doesn't mean PC games don't look better?? i mean with directx11 the texture's/shaders/geometry's are more detailed,. i guess a PC game exclusive would work best,.. >>graphics

RE: PC or Console
PC

I have all consoles and I just don't get that "thing that does it all" out of them.

I can have a huge donkey amount of games installed to my computer and can run them all without the need to find a disc and it's very easy to access them. I also have a powerful computer to convert videos to watch on smaller devices and compatibility with everything (All Media).

It's just all so much better on the PC honestly, use a console if things like installing and what not is foreign to you. A good PC these days should not cost more than 700$ (You can build a decent one at 500$) and that cost is worth it because you're forgetting that this is a PC it is THE hub of computing in a household.

People keep assuming they need crazy quad core processors with crazy 2GB DDR3 graphics card to run things at 1080p these days, my 5770 (costs 120$ now) can run EVERYTHING I THROW AT IT at 2048x1152 MAX settings. (Hint hint, a dual core processor is all that is needed to run todays games, no one ever programs for quad cores.)

But I digress, all these computer terms are foreign to some, if what I'm saying is confusing you, don't get it.

Let's make an example build.

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=6...omoid=1331

Motherboard + Dual Core CPU = $99.99  CAD

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=4...omoid=1331

4GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram = $34.99  CAD

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=5...omoid=1331

2 TB HD = $69.99  CAD

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=6...omoid=1331

450W Power Supply (Not too sure about this part, but i would assume it'd work) = $29.99 CAD

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=4...omoid=1331

Case = $24.99  CAD

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=6...omoid=1331

Video card Radeon 6770 1GB DDR3 (I'm assuming this is the upgraded version of my video card, hence the first numeral being 6 now) = $124.99  CAD

Grand total = 384.95$$

More or less.

Now...

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/m...28e9ceen02

XBOX 360 250GB Slim Bundle = 300$

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/p...9d39eden02

PS3 160 GB = 300$

Consoles are cheaper, but why wouldn't you get a PC when it has: Better Graphics, Larger Storage, Emulation (I'd suggest a switch to an intel core 2 duo though), the fact it's a freaking PC and it's not that much more expensive.

MY SIG IS FUCKING DEAD

havent personally tried that (still saving up for a cpu cooler first)
*i read that you can also use the ps3 controller so that's another option

nah. zinga meant that some pc games arent coded properly, port from console to pc
which results to bugs and stuff

one game i tried was gta4 ... couldnt figure out why its LAGGGGGY as hell.. and this was on my new build (2500k 560ti 1gb 8gb ddr3)

had to update the game just to fix that ... but even with the update.. the final mission bug still wasn't fixed .. had to use fraps as a workaround to limit my framerates to 30

*well of course games in pc will look better :D .. what with DX11, new high performance cards and sli/crossfire and overclocking and whatnots

also .. there are mods in some games that would improve the graphics more :D

RE: PC or Console
Putting a gamepad into a PC still doesn't solve the problem that i'd be cramped up at my desk playing a game x3

And generally if it's not an xbox 360 pad support is poor (i don't like the 360 pad, too chunky)

RE: PC or Console
I could hook my PC up to my TV, grab a wireless controller, and bam!

I wouldn't, the very reason you dislike a PC is a pro for me, but its possible

RE: PC or Console
Yeh steam has a trophy/acheivement system in place for most games, I think mostly indie, but few of the mainstream non-valve games have trophies/acheivements. I dunno. The PS3 is dedicated to gaming, so it'll work out of the box, with PC gaming, you've got to setup the rig, fix issues if there are any all of which can prove to be very annoying for someone or rewarding. Personally I'd say PC gaming. Like others have said, unlike console based games, PC based games are backed by mod communities who are constantly improving gameplay or providing new experiences. Best examples I can think of are the Half Life mods and the Open Source mod for FreeSpace 2.

Hmm yeh, I had to upgrade my PSU to 700Watt to be sure my XFX 5750 worked in my machine, other than that my machine is a bare-bones package (£169) + the 700w PSU (£40) and the graphics card (£69) and it's the best PC I've ever had, Portal 2, Amnesia, Dead Space, all run flawlessly at high res. The rest was salvaged from the old pc, so it's suffering a bit from IDE connections and 4 year old HDDs....I'm looking to upgrade soon though.
