PS3 4.00 firmware update details emerge
Quote:PlayStation 3 owners may be getting a long-requested feature with the console's next firmware update and then some.
While the feature has been rumored to be in development for months as a Playstation Plus exclusive feature, a post on the NeoGAF forums today may have inadvertently confirmed its imminent release from "Naughty Dog Dev" ReklissAbandon that consisted of a leaked patch list. The post, now unsurprisingly deleted, consisted of these juicy details:
Disc changes
BluRay driver has been updated.
Game changes
Ability to choose between various smoothing filters for PS1 and PS2 games
Added backwards compatibility (via emulation) for PS2 games on models lacking the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer.
Updated list of compatible PS2 software titles on PS3.
Media changes
Added cross audio voice chat (stability on a game by game basis)
BluRay playback has been improved.
MKV video format support added.
Added a new YouTube icon on the Video category.
Network changes
Network bandwidth greatly improved.
Web browser speed has been improved.
Improved Playstation Notwork stability
Playstation Notwork services such as the Game and Video store have a new user interface.
Updated Playstation Notwork Terms of Services.
Web browser has 3D output support.
System changes
Installation packages times have been reduced.
Fad speed has been adjusted, adding an automatic driver silent setting.
Updated web-browser, now based on Google Chrome.
Trophies will automatically synchronize with servers while user is online.
Added 3D support for XMB UI.
Sauce
This update is gonna be awesome providing all these leaked details are true.
Im happy about the PS2 backwards compatibility, its about time they made it possible for all PS3 owners to play PS2 games.
The MKV support will be win too :D I don't need to convert all my Anime :D
