From what I've seen, it seems that a number of newer LCD monitors display their branding for a few seconds when you turn them on.

My older 19" LG monitor doesn't do it - that is, you turn it on and after about 0.5s, it displays the screen image. However, at work, they replaced some monitors with 22" widescreen Lenovo LCDs and when you turn them on, they display the brand for like 2s before showing the screen image.
This also seems to be the case with a newer 23" Acer monitor which parents use.

So I'm guessing this isn't just the case of a single brand doing it, but somewhat of a trend?

Does your monitor show branding when you turn it on?
And what are your thoughts on this practice?

Personally, as someone who likes to turn the screen off every so often to conserve power, it probably would be a little bit annoying (when I decide to buy a new monitor). And I don't really see how displaying the branding helps anyone - it's not like it's going to make the owner of the screen want to buy more of the manufacturer's products, so doesn't particularly rank well in the advertising part. In fact, I'd say it has an opposite effect.

Yes, I bought an Acer 23" widescreen monitor not too long ago, and whenever I turn it on I see their logo. Didn't mind at first but it gets old after a while for me.

My monitor is an eMachines monitor. It doesn't show the brand when I turn it on and off. Plus, I think I would be kind of annoyed if it did show the brand everytime I turned it on. It would also discourage me from buying any other products from that brand :/

Edit: Apparently... My monitor does show the brand when I turn it on. It's on the screen for approximately 5 seconds. Err... Not as annoying as I thought it would be, since I'm just now noticing it lol. It's still pointless. I know the Fucking brand, the logo is on the monitor's power button >_>

I have a Samsung(this word was automatically capitalized on my phone) 22" and i think it used to do it but there was an option to turn it off. :p

this aoc monitor does that.. 17" lcd

the lcd i use at home doesn't do it however... then again.. its a tv :))))

I have a widescreen LED samsung 21inch and it doesn't show the branding when I turn it on.

I think the branding is ok i guess. as long as it doesn't last too long; sometimes you turn you screen on and want to get going quickly if it doesn't get in peoples way and time I would say its fine. But personally I would not want a monitor with that bullchocolate on it..

My monitor is so bright though even with contrast and brightness turned all the way down Its still a bit of an eye killer. Next time I will try another brand.

I have one of the really nice new top of the line samsung monitors :D

it doesn't show the branding it just shows that square in the corner going from analog to digital as it searches for input oo
