RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
there are so many v6 ones the argument of already having a v4 one is pointless, especially if retaining a v4 one will cost you more

there are this many ipv4s: 4 294 967 296

and this many ipv6s: 3.40282367 × 10^38

I don't think they can do that to allocated IP addresses?
These things get allocated to certain networks, which means there's a bit of inefficiency, since routing still needs to work...

If you watched the video, running dual stack does make things slower usually, unless it preferences v4 first.  It's because it tries v6 first, waits for a reply, after a while, gets none, before falling back to v4.

v6 is useless until:
a) everyone else uses v6
b) your ISP offers v6

RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
Interesting site.

My infos...
No IPv6 address detected

World IPv6 day is June 8th, 2011. No problems are anticipated for you with this browser, at this location. [more info]

You appear to be able to browse the IPv4 internet only. You will not be able to reach IPv6-only sites.

Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have no access to the IPv6 internet, or is not configured to use it. This may in the future restrict your ability to reach IPv6-only sites. [more info]

Your readiness scores
7/10

for your IPv4 stability and readiness, when publishers offer both IPv4 and IPv6
0/10

for your IPv6 stability and readiness, when publishers are forced to go IPv6 only

RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
and furthermore IPv6 is almost redundant these days with CIDR and private address range NATing.

I doubt you'll see it widespread for at least another 10 years, probably more. It was the "big thing" 10 years ago, never got anywhere.

RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
Passed the IPv6 Test. I have an IPv6 address. Interesting.

Edit: Nevermind, the site I found definitely doesn't work.

My router can't even tell my network adapter what IP its on (default gateway).

IPv6 no-go for me xD

They certainly extend the IPv4 lifespan, however, I'm doubtful as to how long these techniques will last.
As said in the video, NAT is basically using ports as additional IPs, and there's only 65536 ports...

RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
however, with NAT, i think IPv6 will make very little difference for the majority of users, who can quite happily have an IPV4 internal LAN thanks to it, so in terms of the average concern for it, there is an arguement for that stance

RE: So, what do you think of IPv6?
:/

Your IPv4 address on the public internet appears to be HUU.UUU.UUU.UUR

Your IPv6 address on the public internet appears to be DUUR:U:UUUU:UUUU:UUUU:UUU:UUUU:UUUR

Your IPv6 service appears to be: BROCCOLI

BUT my isp doesn't support ip6 so sad :<
