you guys just all like jrpgs, so you don't want to admit that theyre anything other than your preconcieved notions. in reality, they are much closer to adventure games, and often don't even contain very many rpg elements.

Not really, the only ones that come to mind are the Sting games. Most games nowadays fit into a specific genre... even moreso than back then actually!
may be 4-5 is a bit over exaggerated but there are games defies their genre like inFamous, everyone assumed it gonna be a RPG, but it more like a third person shooter to me :P
