Chrome side tabs, and web apps.
A new thing for Chrome users who have widescreen monitors (or don't lol), you can make your tabs on the side. I think it's pretty awesome.

to do so, add '--enable-verticle-tabs' to a Chrome shortcut's 'target'. (also, only works on the dev Chrome, as far as I know.)

and, more awesomely, they're starting with the webapps.

(the app removes all of chromes buttons, and just shows whatever it is) (the rest of the no-name tabs are 'pinned' tabs, which is another sweet feature. Opens all pinned tabs on start up)

Add '--enable-apps' to the target line, restart Chrome, go to 'chrome://extensions', click load unpacked extension, and browse to 'C:\Users\ysername\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\6.0.472.0\Resources\' and select one of the apps there. Gmail, Calender, and Docs are the only ones available now, but there will be more to come.

Also, this only works on dev channel Chrome versions as well.

i.e.: https://chrome.google.com/webstore

I think these are both pretty sweet.

also, on an unrelated note:

Interesting. Especially for laptop users who, like me, have a chocolatety 1280x800 monitor built in. Vertical space is limited. If it gains an extra 15 or so pixels vertically it's win in my book.

Vertical Tabs seem pretty pointless. Apps is nice.

RE: Chrome side tabs, and web apps.
i don't see the tabs as useful at all, it would make sense for people who use fudge loads of tabs, but to save pixel space is a stupid idea as the tabs are built into the title bar

You can always rearrange your toolbars.
On Firefox, I have the menus, address bar and search on one line (don't need toolbars - I use shortcut keys instead).
For my netbook, I'm usually browsing at 640x400 resolution - fullscreen works pretty good with that.

Interesting direction Chrome is taking - thanks for the post.
(though I personally despise web apps >_>)
