New 360 this week. Kinect date announced
So, was just watching E3 coverage on SpikeTV. They revealed that the new, sleek 360 is shipping this week to retail. I didn't hear a price point, but other than it being smaller and sleeker, I don't see a big reason to change to it. The big thing was the date announcement for Kinect, previously Project Natal. It will be coming out November 4 for 190USD.  The new 360 is shipping today, and will be available for purchase within the next week.  I'm certainly excited about what Kinect is going to be doing, or rather what Sony and Nintendo's next moves are going to be, if Kinect is a hit.

so if you are a potential buyer who just wants access to kinect. you need 300$ console + 189$? kinect. + a chocolateload of needed added fees.
no thanks. I'm satisfied with my 169$ black wii.

they shift too much attention to this "project natal", targeting wii players to shift.
they are neglecting their core gamers giving only gears of war 3, halo reach and fable 3 as exclusives.

i was seriously about to buy a 360 and want to try this natal thingie + the past exclusive rpg's, but the price and lack of new exclusive games to look forward to, killed my interest.

nothing.

or you can buy a move and a playstation eye (or even an eyetoy) for less than kinect on its own.

i bet that the Kinect concept could be remade for PS Eye without any hardware change, just software incorporation.

It kinda has already, save for depth sensing, and again all that is is software.

I'm the exact opposite actually. But no reason to start a "console war" here. To each his own ^^

Still, for those who are just now entering the gaming scene, it can be potentially a decent investment to get the new 360. However, the existing 360 users really only need to think about Kinect. Not interested in the new 360 unless my elite dies and it can't get replaced by warranty (I'm on my 4th)

I haven't touched my PS3 much in past months except for BluRay. I passed on the PS Eye when I didn't see much being developed to utilize it, and I lost track since, so I'll have to read up to see what it is doing now.

I'm interested to see how Sony responds, if Kinect proves successful. Nintendo has always had an easy younger audience to appeal to, so it was safe. I wonder how both Sony and Nintendo will react. I am really hoping Nintendo steps up because "I" don't feel an urge to play my Wii much, and I'd like them to draw me back in.

don't get me wrong, i have nothing against 360, in fact i want one (for their rpg exclusives, but having a PC, buying interest dies, and fear of RROD). i have access from time to time though (coworker's)

but if I'm a new player, I'll be looking what new exclusives they can offer me, and this year, MS focused too much on Kinect, failing on their core gamers.

nothing.

I agree that they could have focused more on the number of exclusives to allow more choices, but M$ is hoping that the huge number of gimmick games that will be coming with Kinect and the new interface will be enough to hold 360 users' interest until the next wave of exclusives.

If someone is deciding to get just one system, they are likely going to be comparing the system's capabilities in a lot of their considerations. Therefore, I am excited to see how Sony and Nintendo respond in attempts to one up M$'s attempts.

I'm not going to lie. That would likely make me hold off on all systems for a little while, if I were a newcomer. Being that I'm already in the midst of it, I like any huge advancement. I'll just pick and choose all the best things each company has to offer. When the next-gen consoles hit, I'll likely have to go back to newcomers status, but in the meantime, this suits me just fine. Basically, those who have multiple systems are seeing huge amounts of advantages, the rest are being left high and dry in many aspects.
