RE: Laptop Advice
Ya know what? I actually think I'm going to get a Macbook. Not a Pro, because those are just waaaay to expensive. The standard black Macbook is actually very good. I mean, look at the starting stats:
[list]
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512MB
120GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD

Man, if I had 8 inches, I would find a better use for it :P

RE: Laptop Advice
Well, I just took a look at all the Macbooks, and I got to say, those things are actually pretty good. Also, I have decided to stop my argument against Macs.

RE: Laptop Advice
I'd usually recommend anything but mac's for gaming, but with bootcamp and all, they are looking more and more convenient. And Apple undeniably makes some of the best hardware available. On top of that, it's not too bad of a price (although you can without a doubt get a better priced windows laptop).
In all, I'd suggest the macbook (although I'd go for 2gb of ram or more). :)

RE: Laptop Advice
Yeah, I'm gonna get the better RAM. I used to hate Macs cause I couldn't do anything on them, but now they're looking better and better. And I'm okay with the price because Apple usually has high quality products and srevice.

RE: Laptop Advice
ya macs are getting more useful... now that you can dual boot windows on them...
still easier and cheaper to just get a windows PC....
still recomend Dell inspirons [the 9400 for gaming, or the xps] mine cost about 2800 [2200 for the stock inspiron with 2gb ram and T7200, 200GB HDD, 17" 1920x1200 screen, WiFi[abg] and bluetooh 2.0+EDR] for 550$ i bought the 7950GTX 512mb that is in the XPS 1710 and a intel Wifi link abgn wifi card, that is now offered for the insprion line, but wasn't in dec when my company bought mine.
so about 2800$ for a laptop that is running one of the most powerful video cards on the market[ overclocked a to 666/784 it is even more insane] and its hella durable. i got offraoding and i usually have my laptop with me and its still not giving me any issues.
and dells customer service is generally very good...

RE: Laptop Advice
hmm the 8600m gt is almost the exact equivalent of the 7600 GT, except it has more features because its an 8-series so it will do a bit better. there is no 7950GX2, so its either a 7900GTX, a 7950 GT or a 7920 GX2. all have the same ram as the 8600M gt, GDDR3. the 8600M GT and the 7600 GT both have a 128bit bus, and the others have a 256bit bus, which is a lot better
so in short i think the 8600M GT should already be able to catch up with most new games for a while, and its the latest technology which is good

RE: Laptop Advice
first off, newer IS NOT always better.
1) drivers for the 8 series arent the greatest [unless you have a 8800GTX then there superb]
2) the 8600mGT got beat by a 7600M in almost all real world scenarios [read: gaming]
3)the 7950GTX is THE MOST powerful card avaible in a laptop, period end of story.
4)the 8600MGT is ON AVERAGE 45% slower then then 7900GTX
ill be back with screenshots of my scores in 3dmark03/06 in a little while and some credible info on the 8600mGT to back this up.

RE: Laptop Advice
Wow...all I asked for was a little help with picking a laptop, and instead a whole discussion on good PC parts starts up....
And Dell Customer Service is not good. The operators are hellish demons who put you on hold for an hour, then ask you for some obscure code on your computer, then, if you can't find it and ask where it is, they can't tell you because they don't know, Then, they tell you that without that code, they can't help you! And then they hang up on you!

24109 3dmark03

didnt mean to make it into a big debate, but you said you wanted a powerful GAMING laptop, and that narrows it down a bit, and certainly takes mac out of consideration.
now if what you ment was a semi powerful laptop, that you could play games on, then you have alot more choices, and mac would be an option, although your gaming will still be limited. but hey, macs are really easy to use as long as you don't mind spending a nice big chunk of change and don't want to do anything that isn't included with the system already.
