This site was meant as a way to vent the randomness that builds up naturally in us all (more so in some than in others). I absolutely love the craziness I get in threads I post. I love the serious answers to philosophical debates, or to my informative posts, sure, but I also love the random, slightly insane answers, if not a bit more than the serious ones.

Depending on how you ask it, if you've done your research, shown commitment to the site, helped others, and so on, then you'll see a higher frequency in serious answers, but you'll still get the funny, weird ones. At least you aren't posting on gamefaqs, or 4chin SUCK. Those places are like 90% random, flaming, trolling, etc, with very little help to be found.

The people on this site (perhaps people is a bit too generous for some of you buttholes ) are, for the most part, some of the most intelligent, and insightful I've met. With intelligence, often comes eccentricities. You are welcome to provide your own thoughts, but you have to consider the audience here. Most of the people here have a particular area that they are very very proficient at, and they often will post a random answer if they can't think of something helpful.

Basically, I understand where you're coming from. You are most likely more used to the normal sites out there, be it tomshardware, overclockers, or whatever. It can be a bit annoying to have someone tell you to "cool down" or "brush it off" when you are really wanting a specific answer, or realize you might have come off as foolish, and are now becoming defensive; it is the natural human reaction... do not show faults, and if you are aware of a fault, defend it. It helped with reproduction, and short term, it makes sense somewhat to this day, but it really is more of a useless mechanism IMO.

Instead, to diffuse the situation, such as at the start of this thread, you could have said

Even if you didn't feel dumb, people will be more likely to just show a bit more restraint, with many also admitting that they, too, at first were confused. Either way, as others said, don't take anything here too seriously. These people (sharks?) will eat you alive :o

No, but I mean if you ask a serious question there, which is hard to determine if it was actually serious or not, you won't get anything of help there.
