And, if you get torchlight, combine the mods that were officially released, or the user-made variants, http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/torchli...s/node/324
and you have ridiculous amounts of customizability with lotsa leveling. Each class can take a good number of roles, either being all about skills, or pure melee, or a summoner, and further variations. There are plans to put out a multiplayer version of it at some point.
Edit: by the way, that mod is just so you can reassign skill points and stat points. There are more expensive "official" mods that the developer issued, which just let you reassign skill points. I used the one I listed.

Well, you have an ipod? When I'm between sessions of gaming on comp or console, I have lotsa apps I play, with chess being the top one. Could be a good staller until you find your calling.
Maybe try dling Windows in a number of diff ways, and install it for compatibility with further games? I don't know much about Wine, or Linux for that matter, but it would probably solve your torchlight problems. Relatively addictive game. It kept me busy for about two or so weeks while I waited for a new gaming project.
I'll keep my eyes open for any games that might interest you in the meantime.
Windows won't install on my PC right now, because my HDD is failing (too many bad sectors or whatever) and I won't be able to afford a new one for two weeks.
