played the PSP version, it was good, but too linear.

Problem with me is that I play mostly JRPGs especially FF and I also play JRPGs that are made to be like WRPGs.

Torchlight. Plays like D1+D2 but better. It has LOW requirements, even netbook mode, so you might be able to play it

Or the motherfudgeer of all MMO's that is Eve?? That's got lots and lots and lots of skill development apparently, some people at college are trying to convince me to play, and they made it sound quite a bit like what you want

An MMO would be great, but I don't even have Windows right now, nor can I install it until I get a new HDD, which won't be happening for like a month.

so I guess I'm destined to be bored for a month.
