ProperBritish Wrote:RAID0, not a bad idea, but that would mean id have to reformat everything wouldnt it? what kind of speed increase are wee talking here?

Reformat: Yes.  You also need 2 identical HDDs.

Speed increase.... Theoretically it's supposed to almost double your speed, but in practice you probably won't achieve that kind of increases.  I don't know exactly how much increases you should be expecting to get in real life performance, you should ask someone else (who's done it before) about it.

My PSU blew up, there was a semi-loud pop sound, and everything shut off.  Had to go get a new one.  It was a shitty no-brand PSU that came with my old computer, so no big loss.  Having no computer for 2 weeks was annoying though.

ProperBritish Wrote:yeah i plan to upgrade it later with a Scythe, Zalman or CoolerMaster cooler.

Unless you plan on serious overclocking, it's not really necessary.

/agrees.

AMD's system is much much much easier to install.

indeed, shame the processors have dropped in quality and risen in price, an awful combination for a company to get into

Wonder if the i7 930 is out - apparently meant to be the same price as the 920, but a small speed bump. (tis why I buy everything at once :P; though I'd personally go for i7 860)

Nice build though!

RAID0 ain't worth it - in fact, it could possibly slow things down as it does nothing to help latency.  I'd only really RAID for redundancy purposes these days.
Larger HDDs are generally faster though, due to same spindle speed (7200rpm) running over higher density platters, and possibly larger cache too.

Wow @ dodgy motherboard.  Nice that you fixed it - I probably wouldn't have bothered >_>
