Yaay and not so yaay :(
Well I've been messing around trying to get Intel ICH9R raid support in my OSx Hackintosh...problem is somewhere in all the reboots one of my 500gb drives on the raid5 array decided to loose a drive... no yaay ...

Well after some rebooting i figured out which drive it was and rather than just saying error it said 'non-raid member disk' booted into windows and now its rebuilding.  :)  YAAY....

chocolatety thing is its going to take 40+ hours :-/  no yaay...

That sounds awfully long to rebuild 500GB HDDs... >_>  I mean, surely, it's mostly a read/xor operation and a write somewhere - shouldn't take that long I'd think.

Fine! Here's a roll of paper and a few pens. Lets see if you can do it quicker!

It's 5x 500gB in raid5 with 1.89TB used so there is alot of parity computations being done as well as writing.

Oh, thought it was 3x 500GB.
But you can have >1.5TB used in that configuration??
I'd imagine RAID5 with 5 disks would be 3 drives + 2 parity, though I haven't checked.
