Should I self publish my book?
So I've been bored for a while and started looking into how I can get my book published (first I will need to find an editor), and this is all just for chocolatez n' giggles. I'm not seriously going to publish anything online, but I found a self-publishing website called lulu.com, it seems pretty legit. I was able to pick what type of book I want to publish, what style of binding, how many pages, etc.

Right now I'm messing around with their cover designer, all their preset covers are too bright and happy, so as of right now the book is all black (and for right now I'm just going to have it titled "The Death Merchant" as I still can't come up with a better one) with no picture/design on the front or back. I'm kinda liking it.

Anyways, enough blabbing. My question here is, should I even bother looking at online publishing? Does it ever even work? Can I trust sites like these?

P.S. All I have left to write is the Epilogue, should be done by this weekend seeing as how it will be a short ending.

My Daleks, just understand this; if you choose death and destruction, then death and destruction will choose you.

RE: Should I self publish my book?
maybe try to see some reviews and comments by some authors that already published their works in that site, but for my self, i want to invest it first locally and face to face with a publisher before signing an agreement

but yeah i only self-publish my comic books/manga and i sell it in a local anime/comic convention in our country.

Spoiler for don't look, might destruct your mind:

I believe lulu is fairly known from what I understand.

As for whether you should publish or not, what are you intending with your work?  Do you just want people to read it?

I want the world to read it.
I'm guessing that would mean I'd have to take it to a publishing company.

RE: Should I self publish my book?
I've never done something like this, but I'd expect that a publishing company would require some fees (a lot maybe?).
Still, there's heaps of books around the place, so it would probably be difficult to really stand out.
If money isn't an intention, you could try posting it on places like torrent sites or the various online ebook websites.  Can't say whether it would be open to a wider audience than if you published it as a physical book however.

RE: Should I self publish my book?
I know that most people who read prefer real books

However, if the publisher is interested enough, never doubt how far you can take it, and remember that publishing comes with more than just slapping the story into a book format, they'll offer a LOT of support if they're genuinely interested, and iof youj keep trying your bound to find someone

Hell, if Christopher Paolini can sell millions with his garbage, i have no doubt you can get somewhere

So, to be simple. No, self publishing is not the best solution, and lulu.com, although is an avenue you can take (and i read a very good articel about it a few weeks back, but don't think i have that copy of Micromart) a real publisher will provide you with a far better grounding if you can get one

I don't think money will be a problem (my rich aunt will no doubt help me out), but I will do some research to see what my options are.
