For everyone who is having the freezing XMB just shut down the PSP and hold the right trigger to enter the recovery menu, then from there go into “Advanced” and select the “Format flash1 and reset settings” and it should work perfect! I had to do it, so I’m guessing it’s somewhat standard.
I am having a very different problem though, when I try to connect to the internet, I get a “A connection error has occurred. The key information exchange timed out.” error message. I have a 100% signal strength, and my WPA Key is for sure correct. I'm also sure that the connection worked in 5.50 GEN-B2, so it isn't my modem or router.
Try you’re wireless and see if you have the same issue, and if anyone has any advise on how to fix this that would be great! :)
