Personally, Windows and Linux. Dunno much about Mac, and I probably can't be bothered To be honest - it lacks Linux's flexibility/power and Windows' compatibility, so not worth considering in my view.
But creativity is what pushes things forward, so who knows what comes out of it.

RE: Haiku OS arrives
You did say do you...that could be taket as vaugely or directly as one liked
But BeOS was always around, so its not really a new one, just an upgrade of an old one...
Ohh...and you forgot Mac's main purpose. To make new age 'artists' feel elitist towards normal people despite knowing nothing
Disclaimer: Mac usrrs, i do not hold anything against you, this is a generalisation which im sure doesnt apply to you. By reading the above post, you agree not to flame me to death

This is akin to saying that you don't need more than 3 cars. Which is technically true. You don't need all those cars...
For that matter, all those browsers, brands of clothes, accessories etc.... But wee have them. Why? For the sake of having more options.
Plus, more competition means the manufacturers/developers etc will add more features etc to make people lean towards their products.
I haven't ever used BeOS, so I don't know its features, but perhaps they can bring something new to the arena. Truth be told, neither of the big 3 OSes are doing anything that's radically innovative.

On the contrary, I'll try and remember it. If half of what that article said is true and BeOS truly was better than Windows and Mac OS, then I am very interested in seeing what its modern avatar does now. Especially since in its days, the most potent Windows OS wasn't out and Mac OS... well.. I don't know much about Mac OS.
With 7 coming up and Snow Leopard as well, not to mention various highly advanced Linux distros, I want to see what these guys put out.

RE: Haiku OS arrives
so its like the cool product of when mac split and started to cater only to tools?
Its entirely self-based, not like most "new" os-es which are just no-so-cleverly disguised linux distros...
Even BSD and Sun have the flavor of other OS-es in them.
this is cool. i always like a new OS. (this is like getting a new car for me) plus its free. im gonna give it a try right now. ill let you know what i think. if what the articles says is true, it should be pretty interesting.
edit: downloading now. its only 164 mb... this should only take about 1-2 minutes

RE: Haiku OS arrives
Yea... I don't usually like Alpha builds, so I'll skip it till a more stable build comes along....

i don't either. but considering its theyre first alpha build, they probably tried to make it as good as possible so the alpha testers can brag about it to their friends. which i hope to do. im burning the image now
