ISO firmware recognition
Since there are a few games out that require a firmware higher then 5.50 and 5.50 gen is the highest CFW out there. Has anyone tried messing with the ISO with UMDGEN and see if there is a certain part of it that can be deleted so the ISO will play on any firmware. It seems to me there must be something in the ISO that recognizes the firmware. If this hasn't been tried I'll see it I can try and figure it out sometime this week.

RE: ISO firmware recognition
I believe it is the boot.bin, and eboot.bin that have to be messed with.
Read the Soul Caliber thread for more info:

O.o that sounds like work. but that's not a bad idea. maybe someone will release a patch that you can update your isos to evade the firmware check.

There is, but the stupid hackers don't want to mess with it because they hate "piracy".

I don't think it's an exact science...
I tried the Soul Caliber method on Motor Storm, and it didn't work.

I'll try it on GI Joe next, and post my results.

RE: ISO firmware recognition
The Soul Calibur method isn't for the final game.

it had the 5.00 Update, but it had copy protection, not firmware protection.

I'm gay.

RE: ISO firmware recognition
little history.
Eboot.bin... E = Encrypted.  It will only decrypt with the firmware tha tit requires.
boot.bin ... no e = not encrypted..not sure why both files were ver on there, but that is why on old games on old firmware you can run that firmware setting change and play new games on older firmware than what they require.

The only way to get 5.55 games to work is get the encryption key, decrypt it, make it boot.bin then inject it in the iso.

on these new games the boot.bin is a dummy file..open it up in hexworkshop, its all 0's :(
