How to fill 6 hours...
I'll be leaving in about 10 minutes for work. I'll be there for 6 hours from 6PM to midnight. About 2 hours are already accounted for by all the little jobs that will need doing leaving 4 hours of sitting around doing fuck all...
Wee have a radio but there's nothing decent on these days.
Wee have 2 tills/cash registers that run Win2000 underneath the POS software with internet access. I have a little batch script stored on a flash drive that will open the on screen keyboard when run. When I plug in the drive autorun shows up allowing me to browse the drive and run the script. It isn't easy thought to browse the interweb on a 800x600 10" touchscreen and no keyboard save the OSK.
Anyone have any other ideas to entertain myself?

Seriously? With a supervisor right next to me, a VNC server running on the machine and 3 CCTV cameras covering the counter?

First one, yes, that does sound like a pretty good idea. They even have sound so they can buzz at us when they don't recognise a barcode (every other item) and trill when someone is done filling their car.
Second one, I'd lose the POS software then... No CD drive either.
The database for the POS software on each one is around 15GB too. It has to store full details of every transaction in the last 4 years and the database of barcodes, prices and stock levels. At the end of each day they'll each print a 10' long receipt giving totals of each item sold, amounts of fuel sold and money taken. It's all very confusing and pointless...

Depending on who the supervisor is and how quiet it is. Most of the time wee don't need 2 tills. The other one is only really there as a backup.
The UPS blew on mine about a month ago (If there's a power cut wee can carry on using them for about 1/2 an hour) with a rather large plume of smoke and a sickly smell which was entertaining meaning wee both had to use the shi tty one. The cash drawer is only held on its shelf by the wires and the printer makes a horrible noise.
