Can't check the pictures, but the CoalGG encode does look better from the info.
Heh, CoalGG hid their encoding settings. But hey, since retards and/or most bad encoders don't know how to do that, it's probably not a bad thing. But you could also argue that good encoders won't be afraid of people looking at their x264 settings.
One of them is 29.970 and the other is 23.976. Thus one of them most likely fails at encoding. I bet 10% on VFR, 5% on Coalguys, 85% on DB-LE. Reasons:
- They (DB-LE) use CBR MP3 (pft, what self respectable encoder uses CBR MP3)
- They use XviD+MP3 in MKV (the only reason to use XviD + MP3 at all would be because they work in AVI).
- They use 704x396 (not mod16)
- Anime is more than 80% of the time 23.976. And out of the remaining, it's probably more likely VFR than 29.970.
Or.... there's always the possibility that both of them fail at encoding ^.^

But it's the only soft-subbed one between the two, so eh.
Spoiler for screenshot:
Thanks to Assassinator, I'm now a lot more picky on these things >_>
Probably means Haruhi has shitty broadcasts.
I see... (weak) haloing.

Not too sure what they did to hide it from medainfo (didn't bother checking) but the above is definitely hexed. Still, I'm surprised at what they did - I guess they don't know how to remove the info NAL altogether (it's really easy) so they just hexed a few parts (neither did they bother to hex over the whole string). If they wanted to trick someone else, they should've made it visible in mediainfo at least... (but still lol @ me=000)
Anyway, screenshot of DB-LE:

Regarding the x264 settings not showing up on MediaInfo... Try deleting any part within that line you quoted in the spoiler (or alternatively, hex any value/s to 00). Will confuse MediaInfo, and it won't display anything. (Look inside your logs, you won't find the x264 version info either)
I assume they removed part of the version info (the highlighted bit of "core 67 r1153 7b6ce6a"). Seems more likely that they didn't know the effects of doing it, rather than it being on purpose, based on their other actions.

They should've changed to me=HAX instead. Hmmm.... Maybe I'll do that when I release something... me=GOD !!!!

RE: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya “Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”
i think the bigger issue here isn't who has better encoding, its why no one has gotten a hold of a good quality raw, its been more than 24 hours already and i can't find a good looking raw yet, well when the hd stations air this I'm sure wee'll get an awesome one, but usually there's one or two good ones by this time
RE: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya “Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”
Seems HQ releases are out now.
Spoiler for DB-LE:
Tried downloading part of it to see the image, but they've probably done some weird muxing thing cause I can't play it. Could use server to dump a screenshot, but cbf.
