RE: 5 Centimeters Per Second
Makoto Shinkai, the director of 5cm per second seems to be rather hyped in japan.
since he only directed 4 films i decided to watch them all..
interestingly no matter how different the stories may be, they are all about the same thing love, time, distance and loneliness
they even often feature the same scenerys and locations skies, trains, train stations, tracks and railroad crossings.
well you kinda get the idea that he is expressing a painful memory, a personal experience thru his works.

my small rant on his previous works.
She and Her Cat:
supposedly his first work, an incredible 5min film.
very artistic eventhough i have no idea what this actually is about ;p

Voices of a Distant Star:
just amazing how much depth you can put in a 25min long film. this work is imho on par with 5 centimeters per second.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days:
rather disappointing. eventhough its 90min long it just hasn't the depth like his other works...
its a tad overdramatized and cheesy also it just doesn't share the same "feeling" or atmosphere like his other works.
-
anyway i hope the statement he made in 5 centimeters per second is also his personal statement, so hopefully wee can see something completely different in his future projects.

Beautiful... just simply beautiful....

I had a friend like in Ep 1.... some memories are just too cruel.

I did actually see this.

I can't help but feel slightly depressed by the realistic ending... helplessly.

Wonderfully beautiful. Harshly real.

I recommend this to anyone.

I totally appreciated the realistic depiction of relationships in this... life is not that sweet...
