Hi, I might be buying a pc soon, but I need it to meet some requirements

1. Its parts, I can assemble it.

2. It's under $1k aus, (preferably under $900)

3. They have to come from aus or be able to be shipped there direct.

CPU - AMD X3 Phenom II 720 $225 - MSY.com.au

GPU - ATI Sapphire HD 4770 512gb GDDR5 Video Card $109 (after rebate $99)* [aus=141.15] - Newegg.com

RAM - 4GB Kit(2x2G)DDR2 1066 TEAM-XtreemDark $85 - MSY.com.au

Motherboard** - ASROCK AOD790GX $199 - Gamedude.com.au

Optical Drive - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD-DRIVE $24 [aus=34.20] - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6827151171

Case & PSU: CM CAC-T05 + CM 460W Extreme $117 - MSY.com.au

Hard Drive - Western Digital Sata 1tb $144 - MSY.com.au

Total - $945.35 (after Rebates)

EDIT: I updated the parts list, I just need a different mobo to drag the price under $900. Also I would like it if someone could find a good dvd drive (similar to the newegg one) but at an aus site :D.

This is what I've got so far, but I need the rest of the parts to suit the graphics card and CPU.

What's the aim of the machine? Gaming?
Note that if you're using US prices, you probably haven't included shipping (dunno about tax) costs.
If so, I recommend:
- CPU: AMD Phenom II 720 X3 [$225 at MSY]
- Mobo: you pick [say ~$200]
- GPU: have heard positive stuff about the 4770 but doesn't appear to be in Australia yet (so can't price it) I'll take your price of $141
- RAM: 2x2GB DDR2-1066 TEAM [$85 at MSY] - DDR3 isn't really any faster and people say that apparently 1066MHz works well on the AMD PIIs
- Optical drive: you pick [$35]
- Case & PSU: CM CAC-T05 + CM 460W Extreme [$117 from MSY]
- HDD: your choice is fine [$144]

Total (with $200 mobo): $947

To bring it to $900:
- HDD » Samsung 750GB SATA2 32M cache [$111 from Umart]
- 4GB DDR2-800 RAM [$71 from MSY]
-» Total: $900

I'd consider getting a cheaper mobo though. Get an AM2+ board if you're not going DDR3.

If you want better GPU, get a cheaper dual core CPU instead and perhaps smaller HDD.

EDIT: just realised your last line. If you're going to get a PII 940 CPU, I'd probably still recommend the other parts.

As Zinga said, the purpose of the PC directly affects what you should get. Gamers will prioritize graphics, RAM and CPU.. HTPC builders will focus more on screen estate, hdd capacity and sound accessories. Normal users will try to balance out (and thus get extremely confused)
If its for hard gaming, then you will need a mobo+CPU+Graphics card that are all capable of being aggressively OC'd, especially in the future.

For graphics card, you can look into the HD4890 or the GTX285 as both are mid-to-high performance cards but are not that expesive (as the GTX295). You can look into something cheaper, but among the two listed, I recommend the 4890 (or the 4870 or the cheapest of them, the 4850.. depends on how much you want to spend.)

GTX295/HD4890 not expensive? :O You can get like a whole computer for the price...

Actually, gamers really don't need that strong of CPU. Gaming performance is almost completely GPU limited, unless your CPU sucks that bad.

I suggest something like...

Ultra-hardcore "games are your life" gamer: 4870x2 or 295. Crossfire or SLI if you're completely loaded.
Heavy gamer: around what feinicks said.
Gamer: 4850, 250, or if you're willing to spend more, 4870, 260.
Normal user/casual gamer: 9600 or 4670.

GTX295/HD4890 not expensive? :O You can get like a whole computer for the price...

Not the 4890.... compared the 295 in any case...

You can buy a PC for the price of almost any decent performance graphics card! That is the trade off you have to think... in any case, the point there is that the buyer needs to prioritize his preferences early on.

hope your not planning on shopping at the egg
they ship to US only and don't accept international credit cards
they also ship to CA with the newegg.ca site

and also region prices are different, so you can't really convert them from neweggs site and expect them to be the exact same price where ever you get the parts from

I converted the cost of the HD 4770 from a US site, I can get a friend to pick up some of the parts when he goes to the USA.

Also, @ other people, the HD 4770 is actually a gamer's Graphics card, it's between the gts 250 and HD 4850, but much cheaper.

I wanted a higher end psu, as the quad core reccomends 550 watts and above, and I want to be able to possibly add more parts later on.

The Ram you reccommended is cheaper, and as you said their isn't much of a diff between ddr2 and 3, so I'll stick with ddr2.

Also I was planning and looking for a better deal/ cheaper mobo, as that is quite expensive.

I forgot to mention this but I need the higher capacity hard drives, as I fill them quickly. (I filled my 1TB in about 4 months)

I never said it's not a gamer's card. A 4670 (quite a bit weaker than 4770) can run Crysis, on high settings.

All graphics cards are gamers cards. If you don't game, there's absolutely no reason to waste money on a graphics card at all. Integrated can way more than handle your windows display or video watching.

Hell, you can even game fine with an integrated, for most of the games out there (almost all games besides for the really new games will run on decent settings. I played through HL2 on high settings on an integrated 3200, no lag).

Yeah, you can get a cheaper modo. Doesn't make that much of a difference anyway.

You've got to understand that many cheaper PSUs have rubbish ratings, so they probably recommend some arbitrary high number to be safe. A CM 460W should be more than enough for your build. If you're interested, search up a power usage calculator - I'd be surprised if your build used more than around 300W on high load...
