It depends on how much you overclock.

Hell yes it significantly reduces the lifespan if you're one of these "hardcore" overclockers who try to overclock as much as the chip possibly can before blowing up, and using insane voltages like 1.65volts.

But if you don't overclock that much like me, and use fairly standard voltages (1.25 for me), you won't really significant'y reduce it's lifespan. That's why I said overclock Q6600 up to like 3GHz (which for the Q6600, isn't that hard at all, can do it on like stock everything). It's actually possible to overclock the Q6600 all the way to 3.6GHz on air, and I wouldn't suggest doing that.

RE: EP Computer Benchmarking Powerboard
Emailed Kingmax and it seems I need to raise the timings to get the 1066MHz clock.  Tried it, it works.  But higher timings = more latency.  Tried PCMark05 and I get a slightly lower rating for memory performance, probably due to the higher latency... >_>

RE: EP Computer Benchmarking Powerboard
Can anyone tell me why PCMark is freezing my Win 7 x64, Vista x64 and XP x86 installs? PCMark Vantage at least loads, but then freezes when you press begin.

Some stuff that instantly come to mind...

You need Windows Media Encoder (the 32bit one)
You need Windows Media Player 10+
You need IE
You need enough disk space on the HDD to be tested (can select that in the advanced options window under tests

Those are probably not it though.

Exactly what test is it freezing on?

EDIT: There's a hotfix for PCMark05. Try that.

Changing test HDD from the 20GB Windows install partition to the large storage partition gave me 1000 more HDD score, and better results for CPU and Memory as well.

It freezes at the splash screen.

Got WME, Got WMP12 (11 on Vista), Got IE, got 300GB+ free on all installs.

Splash screen is when PCMark05 tries to collect system data I think, so it must've failed at that or something. One of your system parts incompatible? Don't know, can't help you.

Tried that hotfix thing?

RE: EP Computer Benchmarking Powerboard
I ran it in a Vista x86 install no problem. Weird :/

It could be my ASUS overclocking utilities that run it the background doing it. I didn't install them on the x86.

RE: [Updated] EP Computer Benchmarking Powerboard

Major update to the 1st post (the PowerBoard).

  • Separated PCmark05 and 3Dmark06 scores into separate tables. Because of ranking problems that arise when PCMark ranks and 3DMark ranks don't match. (e.g, I have a decent PCMark score, but if I try 3DMark, will probably come last... It's an encode box, not a gaming box).
  • Updated all scores as of 06/03/09 (...03/06/09 for the US people)
  • Removed the "EP Scores" column. When did wee have our own benchmark? Wee never did, therefore that score doesn't exist and never will.
  • Cosmetics
