Well, yeah, i just got it yesterday, and finished it ( on Human mode, cause of my DMC experiences, play easy first to get all the weapon/technique first) and seriously:

-You don't get these boring talking cutscene in DMC3 ( not all of them are boring, BUT)
-You don't get these boring walking in DMC3 either.
-Nero are fun to use, but eventually got boring since you gonna find yourself sPa/\/\ Buster alot in some situation.
-Dante is totally watered down. switching styles are awesome, yes, but alot of moves are useless, Firework, Twosome time, royal guard, and charging moves. and alot of awesome stuffs would work in some situation, like falling rain, but again, you are forced to use Aerial Rave, and the Pandora as well, the Laser cannon is just stupid, you took 3 sec to pull it out, and it only has a fixed aimpoint?  and so is the missile launcher thing, what? transform into a giant floating .... ball and shoot 2 little homing Missiles? because of those useless move,  i broke my combos sometime cause i have to press it twice to get back on my Ivory & Ebony.

this is the only DMC game I've played so i can't really compare it to anything.....

i did find it somewhat bland at times but i thought it was a decent game to play....

decent, you got that right, cause the other games was alot more than just decent =p
