This thread is inspired by an arguement arising in the Michael Jackson thread. Since none of us wish to completely disrupt a thread concerned about the well being of The King of Pop, let us argue in this thread instead.

I disagree. Justice and seeking revenge aren't the same thing. And you're not really protecting anyone by going out and breaking the law, thus making yourself a criminal.
In the worst case scenario, by killing whoever wronged you or someone close to you, you make yourself the target of another vigilante's misguided sense of justice.
And then the violence just keeps on going and going.

Frankly I think your mindset, which I am sure you share with a lot of people, is part of what is wrong with the world today: You choose only to follow the law so long as it suits your needs. But as soon as the law no longer works in your eyes, you're ready to break it to serve your own agenda.

If you wish to protect those you love, you leave the sentencing and execution of sentence to the courtroom. Don't take the law into your own hands.

You should not do whatever is necessary. If your sister was a hostage and was going to be killed if you didn't kill two mothers (of an innocent loving family), as much as I hate to say it, you should let your sister die. The suffering of the two families would be more than your families loss.

If someone raped your sister, that person needs to uinderstand the horror and pain he caused your sister and should. However, if you kill that person, you may prevent him from doing it to several other woman, or even murdering others. However, it would be impossible to know this, and you would most likely kill the person just on impulse/anger.

I believe the law should not come into any situation. It should be your moral judgment that should. However, a moral judgement cannot be made when you are filled with adrenaline/anger/hate etc,....

double you tee eff So if someone raped your sister and the guy was found not guilty but you knew it was him...what would you do? I know what I would do...that guy would never be seen again.

Personally I don't know how I would react in a hostage situation. If it came down to them or me and mine, I would probably attempt to kill them. But wee're not talking about hostage sitations here, or scenarios where your loved ones were threatened on their lives.

Allow me to explain: Someone rapes your sister and is caught by the police. He is tried in a court of law, but his sentence is not severe enough for you. In some manner you manage to kill him.
That is the scenario I'm thinking of here, where you ignore the judgment of the court and take the law into your own hands to mete out justice as you see fit.

That stuff isn't acceptable.

I agree on the moral judgment and how it is important to keep a cool head.

The way I read Mr. Shizzy's quote added in my first post in this thread, he would only follow the law, read: not go vigilante, so long as he felt justice was served. But if the law didn't fit his needs for justice, he would take matters into his own hands. That's what I think is unacceptable and downright wrong.

But if the guy wasn't caught, and I knew it was him.. Well.. I think I would file charges and testify against him.

2) Wee're both white men. At least I imagine you to be a white man. If you're not do inform me where racism took place.
3 and 4) Never. I called the actions described in your post, and the mindset they seemed to represent stupid.
5) Maybe you anger easily. To my best knowledge, I have kept the tone as civil as possible.

I really don't know what else to say. You suggested a new thread be opened to discuss vigilantism, and I complied. But now you appear to take it all as a great insult.

Why are you all angry at my friend Vlad? He has the best Grammar out of all of you. How can you possibly hope to convey your point as valid when it's done by typing like an uneducated baboon?

When someone makes a post, it's hard to gauge the extent of their intelligence. Other than the obvious content of their post aspect (which can be agreed upon or disagreed upon as easily as it is read), you have very little to go by in terms of validating the user's competence. How could you feel so strongly about a post, to the point of anger, yet you can't use the time and effort to portray it with flawless Grammar? It couldn't possibly hurt you, so why?
