HLE = High Level  something

Um, still in it's infancy, but interesting to hear :P  I say at least half a year before things become rather usable.

RE: Potemkin - A PSP Emluator For Windows
what kind of architecture does the psp use? if its not that proprietary then theres probably already some kind of emulator for it or not?

HLE = High-Level Emulation... ;)

well.. u know there is 1 N64 Emulator also use HLE method.. :P
Double post
Ge64 Wrote:oh. so that's not as good as emulating the hardware right? but isn't that easier, cause u can just load a flash0/flash1 rom with the latest official firmware and load an iso into the 'umd' drive :P

yes.... both methods has their own pros and cons..... for emulating hardware, you have more realistic environment like the real PSP, but the drawback is the speed will be slower , while if you emulating the system software itself, the speed in theory could be as fast as your own computer... of course there are still a bit slowdown but not as much as emualting hardware... and also is far easier to implement.. :P

RE: Potemkin - A PSP Emluator For Windows
but if you made a low level emulator but with a faster processor and more ram you could run psp things more smoothly without compromising the original framerate/speed right?

in theory yes... but in practical no, as you won't know what exactly the requirement to translate to the emulated hardware..... or I should say, you need at least 10 times more CPU power to emulate the hardware.... with PSP CPU is 333Mhz, you need at least 3330 Mhz (3.33Ghz) with reasonable speed (with still degrade of speed)... The trouble is... PSP isn't about emulating CPU itself, it has other loads of complex things, so, it could be not worth the time to develop emulator to fully emulate PSP hardware. so, if someone going to make a XBOX or even PS3 emulator, It won't be hardware emulated like the old emulator like PS1, cause, it is almost impossible to emulate hardware, i guess from now on, new emulator that emulate the new console will be based on HLE...... rather than the old approach like SNES, PS1 emulators....

RE: Potemkin - A PSP Emluator For Windows
today's processors are much more efficient than the PSP's processor so i think an athlon 3000+ should do
but ye u are right
unless the code is already there, or something similar with a similar processor that already has an emu. then it could be altered to work like a psp
