Have you tried Bart's PE? I've got one that some dude put together and it's got a ton of preinstall environments like xp sp2, server 2003, etc.

I could upload the image and post a link if anyone wants it. It's packed full of good utilities like ghost and partition recovery stuff.

Bart's PE is pretty cool - though not as good as Linux LiveCDs (obviously).  Actually, I don't think it comes with the stuff - but you can package it together.  Useful if you need another Windows environment.  Though, I just have a 2nd copy of Windows installed for backup purposes.

Yeah, it's somebody else's package. They called it Super WinPe or something. I'm uploading it now to share. ;)

I've been using windows my whole life and i want to have a bit of a change so i' thinking about linux, more particularly, Ubuntu. i have a few questions and i already have read this thread: http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthr...p?tid=1200 and i have a few questions, probably towards Liquid because you obviously are using it.

1. how did you get Ubuntu (i mean, download or bought a CD)? becuase i can't be bothered downloading it so I'm thinking about getting it shipped free from here: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

2. i already have a partitioned hard-drive with C: & D: (C: is the one that is used the most) and C: only has about 3GB free from 27GB and D: has about 22GB free from 27GB (which is the one I'm thing about having Ubuntu on), so does it matter if already has some windows files on there like music etc?

1. The shipping can take a while. I would just download it and then burn it.

2. Ubuntu should be able to handle repartitioning of your secondary hard drive. Its part of the installation process. It will also set up dual booting as well. NTFS drivers are available for Linux.

yes you need a seperate empty partition (2 actually) for linux, because it uses a different filesystem. however if you have space left at the end of partition D you can easily resize the partition and make E: for linux.

1. I downloaded it via torrent. If you can't dl, get it any way you can.
2. Yes and no. Linux has it's own partition types, BUT I have seen people install it on NTFS partitions, but I wouldn't recommend that. I'm uploading a cool suite of tools right now that could help you resize your free space into a new partition that could be used for linux.

The nice thing about Unbuntu is that you can try it out straight from the DVD or CD without installing it to your harddrives.

I've seen beryl because Ge64 kept talking about it for a while...I'll go check out compiz. Beryl may well be the most impressive thing I've seen in the computer world yet.

that's what i was planning to do just run it off the cd, is that possible with out having to install anything onto hard drives?

by the way, i don't care about the shipping wait, I'm in no hurry, i was just wondering if from that site it was safe and trustworthy (asking because some of you may have got it shipped) :D
eventhough i have a 12GB a month d/l limit and 8GB/s speeds, my dad would get angry if i downloaded the .iso and he found out

beryl is a split off of compiz because they didnt agree with the path compiz was taking and most ppl think beryl is now better


i wouldnt run it off cd if you plan to really use it though... its slower to boot and you can't save any settings

Yeah, if you're serious, install it properly. I was just taking it out for a test drive earlier.
