As for the downtime, I'm not too certain of the issue actually.  The host tech doesn't seem to either.  Basically, the server didn't crash.  However, at the time, traceroutes indicated the connection was dying at the server rather than a node in their network.  I also have a script which checks the network interface every so often and restarts it if necessary.
What's weirder is that they fixed the issue by simply restarting my server, however the guy said he got a IRQ 50 error and a whole bunch of stack errors.  The thing is, the device "usb2" is assigned IRQ 50, and no USB ports are actually used on the server, and there isn't an IRQ conflict on 50.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that it's an issue on their side at the moment.

I'll probably write a script which will check a number of external servers to see if the server is up, and if not, automatically send a reboot command.
Obviously, if this fails, then there's something else...
