RE: To VSynch or not to VSynch - that is the question
v synch usually means vertical sync which stops you games screen from tearing skipping some frames to make you game look smoother by syncing the framerate with your desktops refresh rate.
disabling this can greatly increase you game speed and usually with very little side effects

RE: To VSynch or not to VSynch - that is the question
Some people find the screen tearing very noticeable, which is why they have VSynch on.
Typically, screen tearing becomes more noticeable if you're computer is rendering frames too fast.
From memory, VSynch lowers your framerate to synch with the monitor.

RE: To VSynch or not to VSynch - that is the question
vsync tearing is more apparent in case of CGI movies and cutscenes that randomly popup. hardly noticeable if you're running a medium paced game. It is also more apparent when using high resolutions with greatest level of detail.
